In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful
1.
Waththariyati tharwa
By the scatterers scattering,
2.

Innama tooAAadoona lasadiq
what you are promised is certainly true –
6.
Wa-inna addeena lawaqiAA
the Judgement will certainly take place!
7.
Wassama-i thati alhubuk
By Heaven with its oscillating orbits,
8.
Innakum lafee qawlin mukhtalif
you certainly have differing beliefs.
9.
Yu/faku AAanhu man ofik
Averted from it is he who is averted.
10.
Qutila alkharrasoon
Death to the conjecturers:
11.
Allatheena hum fee ghamratin sahoon
those who flounder in a glut of ignorance,
12.
Yas-aloona ayyana yawmu addeen
asking, ‘When is the Day of Judgement?’
13.
Yawma hum AAala annariyuftanoon
On the Day they are tormented by the Fire:
14.
Thooqoo fitnatakum hatha allatheekuntum bihi tastaAAjiloon
‘Taste your torment! This is what you were trying to hasten!’
15.
Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwaAAuyoon
The people with taqwa will be among Gardens and Fountains,
16.
Akhitheena ma atahumrabbuhum innahum kanoo qabla thalika muhsineen
receiving what their Lord has given them. Certainly before that they were good-doers.
17.
Kanoo qaleelan mina allayli mayahjaAAoon
The part of the night they spent asleep was small
18.
Wabil-ashari humyastaghfiroon
and they would seek forgiveness before the dawn.
19.
Wafee amwalihim haqqun lissa-iliwalmahroom
And beggars and the destitute received a due share of their wealth.
20.
Wafee al-ardi ayatunlilmooqineen
There are certainly Signs in the earth for people with certainty;
21.
Wafee anfusikum afala tubsiroon
and in yourselves as well. Do you not then see?
22.
Wafee assama-i rizqukum wamatooAAadoon
Your provision is in heaven – and what you are promised.
23.
Fawarabbi assama-i wal-ardiinnahu lahaqqun mithla ma annakum tantiqoon
By the Lord of heaven and earth, it is certainly the truth, just as you have speech.
24.
Hal ataka hadeethu dayfiibraheema almukrameen
Has the story reached you of the honoured guests of Ibrahim?
25.
Ith dakhaloo AAalayhi faqaloosalaman qala salamun qawmun munkaroon
When they entered his dwelling and said, ‘Peace!’ he said, ‘Peace, to people we do not know. ’
26.
Faragha ila ahlihi fajaabiAAijlin sameen
So he slipped off to his household and brought a fattened calf.
27.
Faqarrabahu ilayhim qala alata/kuloon
He offered it to them and then exclaimed, ‘Do you not then eat?’
28.
Faawjasa minhum kheefatan qaloo latakhaf wabashsharoohu bighulamin AAaleem
He felt afraid of them but they said, ‘Do not be afraid!’ and gave him the good news of a son imbued with knowledge.
29.
Faaqbalati imraatuhu fee sarratin fasakkatwajhaha waqalat AAajoozun AAaqeem
His wife came up with a shriek and struck her face and said, ‘What, and me a barren old woman!’
30.
Qaloo kathaliki qalarabbuki innahu huwa alhakeemu alAAaleem
They said, ‘That is what your Lord says. He is the All-Wise, the All-Knowing.’
31.
Qala fama khatbukumayyuha almursaloon
He inquired, ‘What, then, is your business, messengers?’
32.
Qaloo inna orsilna ilaqawmin mujrimeen
They said, ‘We have been sent to a people of evildoers
33.
Linursila AAalayhim hijaratanmin teen
to unleash upon them lumps of clay
34.
Musawwamatan AAinda rabbika lilmusrifeen
earmarked by your Lord for the profligate. ’
35.
Faakhrajna man kana feehamina almu/mineen
We brought out all the muminun who were there
36.
Fama wajadna feehaghayra baytin mina almuslimeen
but found in it only one house of Muslims.
37.
Watarakna feeha ayatanlillatheena yakhafoona alAAathaba al-aleem
And We left a Sign in it for those who fear the painful punishment.
38.
Wafee moosa ith arsanahuila firAAawna bisultanin mubeen
And also in Musa when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.
39.
Fatawalla biruknihi waqala sahirunaw majnoon
But he turned away with his forces, saying, ‘A magician or a madman!’
40.
Faakhathnahu wajunoodahufanabathnahum fee alyammi wahuwa muleem
So We seized him and his armies and hurled them into the sea, and he was to blame.
41.
Wafee AAadin ith arsalnaAAalayhimu arreeha alAAaqeem
And also in ‘Ad when We unleashed against them the barren wind,
42.
Ma tatharu min shay-in atatAAalayhi illa jaAAalat-hu karrameem
which left nothing it touched without turning it to dust.
43.
Wafee thamooda ith qeela lahumtamattaAAoo hatta heen
And also in Thamud, when they were told: ‘Enjoy yourselves a while!’
44.
FaAAataw AAan amri rabbihim faakhathat-humuassaAAiqatu wahum yanthuroon
But they spurned their Lord’s command, so the Blast seized them as they looked.
45.
Fama istataAAoo min qiyaminwama kanoo muntasireen
They could not stand upright and they were not helped.
46.
Waqawma noohin min qablu innahum kanooqawman fasiqeen
And the people of Nuh before, they were a people of deviators.
47.
Wassamaa banaynahabi-aydin wa-inna lamoosiAAoon
As for heaven – We built it with great power and gave it its vast expanse.
48.
Wal-arda farashnahafaniAAma almahidoon
And the earth – We spread it like a carpet and how well We smoothed it out!
49.
Wamin kulli shay-in khalaqna zawjaynilaAAallakum tathakkaroon
And We created all things in pairs so that hopefully you would pay heed.
50.
Fafirroo ila Allahi inneelakum minhu natheerun mubeen
So flee to Allah. Truly I bring you a clear warning from Him.
51.
Wala tajAAaloo maAAa Allahi ilahanakhara innee lakum minhu natheerun mubeen
Do not set up another god together with Allah. Truly I bring you a clear warning from Him.
52.
Kathalika ma ata allatheenamin qablihim min rasoolin illa qaloo sahirunaw majnoon
Equally, no Messenger came to those before them without their saying, ‘A magician or a madman!’
53.
Atawasaw bihi bal hum qawmun taghoon
Did they bequeathe this to one another? Indeed they are an unbridled people.
54.
Fatawalla AAanhum fama anta bimaloom
So turn away from them, for you are not to blame.
55.
Wathakkir fa-inna aththikratanfaAAu almu/mineen
And remind them, for truly the muminun benefit from being reminded.
56.
Wama khalaqtu aljinna wal-insailla liyaAAbudoon
I only created jinn and man to worship Me.
57.
Ma oreedu minhum min rizqin wamaoreedu an yutAAimoon
I do not require any provision from them and I do not require them to nourish Me.
58.
Inna Allaha huwa arrazzaquthoo alquwwati almateen
Truly Allah, He is the Provider, the Possessor of Strength, the Sure.
59.
Fa-inna lillatheena thalamoothanooban mithla thanoobi as-habihimfala yastaAAjiloon
Those who do wrong will have their due, the same as that of their friends. So they should not hurry Me!
60.
Fawaylun lillatheena kafaroo minyawmihimu allathee yooAAadoon
Woe then to those who are kafir on account of the Day they have been promised!
