52. Surah At-Tur The Mount
Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem
In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful
1.
Wattoor
By the Mount;
2.
Wakitabin mastoor
and an Inscribed Book
3.
Fee raqqin manshoor
on an Unfurled Scroll,
4.
Walbayti almaAAmoor
by the Visited House,
5.
Wassaqfi almarfooAA
by the Raised Canopy,
6.
Walbahri almasjoor
by the Overflowing Ocean:
7.
Inna AAathaba rabbika lawaqiAA
your Lord’s punishment will certainly take place.
8.
Ma lahu min dafiAA
No one can ward it off.
9.
Yawma tamooru assamao mawra
On the Day when heaven sways to and fro
10.
Wataseeru aljibalu sayra
and the mountains shift about,
11.
Fawaylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen
woe that Day to the deniers,
12.
Allatheena hum fee khawdinyalAAaboon
who play at frivolous games:
13.
Yawma yudaAAAAoona ila narijahannama daAAAAa
the Day they are shoved roughly into the Fire of Hell:
14.
Hathihi annaru allateekuntum biha tukaththiboon
‘This is the Fire which you denied!
15.
Afasihrun hatha am antum latubsiroon
So is this magic? Or is it that you do not see?
16.
Roast in it! And bear it patiently or do not bear it patiently. It makes no difference either way. You are simply being repaid for what you did.’
17.
Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwanaAAeem
The people who have taqwa will be in Gardens of Delight,
18.
Fakiheena bima atahumrabbuhum wawaqahum rabbuhum AAathaba aljaheem
savouring what their Lord has given them. Their Lord will safeguard them from the punishment of the Blazing Fire:
19.
Kuloo washraboo hanee-an bimakuntum taAAmaloon
‘Eat and drink with relish for what you did. ’
20.
Muttaki-eena AAala sururin masfoofatinwazawwajnahum bihoorin AAeen
They will recline on couches ranged in rows and We will marry them to dark-eyed maidens.
21.
Wallatheena amanoo wattabaAAat-humthurriyyatuhum bi-eemanin alhaqnabihim thurriyyatahum wama alatnahum minAAamalihim min shay-in kullu imri-in bima kasaba raheen
And We will unite those who had iman with their offspring, who followed them in iman, and We will not undervalue their own actions in any way. Every man is in pledge for what he earned.
22.
Waamdadnahum bifakihatin walahminmimma yashtahoon
We will supply them with any kind of fruit and meat that they desire.
23.
They will pass round there a drinking cup to one another with no foolish talk and no wrong action in it.
24.
Wayatoofu AAalayhim ghilmanunlahum kaannahum lu/luon maknoon
Circulating among them there will be youths like hidden pearls.
25.
Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon
Some of them will come up to others and they will question one another.
26.
Qaloo inna kunna qablufee ahlina mushfiqeen
They will say, ‘Beforehand we used to live in fear among our families.
27.
Famanna Allahu AAalayna wawaqanaAAathaba assamoom
But Allah was gracious to us and safeguarded us from the punishment of the searing wind.
28.
Inna kunna min qablu nadAAoohuinnahu huwa albarru arraheem
Beforehand we certainly used to call on Him because He is the All-Good, the Most Merciful. ’
29.
Fathakkir fama anta biniAAmatirabbika bikahin wala majnoon
Remind them then! For, by the blessing of your Lord, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman.
30.
Am yaqooloona shaAAirun natarabbasubihi rayba almanoon
Or do they say, ‘He is a poet and We are waiting for something bad to happen to him’?
31.
Qul tarabbasoo fa-innee maAAakum minaalmutarabbiseen
Say: ‘Wait then! I am waiting with you. ’
32.
Am ta/muruhum ahlamuhum bihathaam hum qawmun taghoon
Is it their intellects that direct them to say this or is it that they are an unbridled people?
33.
Am yaqooloona taqawwalahu bal layu/minoon
Or do they say, ‘He has simply made it up’? No, the truth is they have no iman.
34.
Falya/too bihadeethin mithlihi in kanoosadiqeena
Let them produce a discourse like it if they are telling the truth.
35.
Am khuliqoo min ghayri shay-in am humu alkhaliqoon
Or were they created out of nothing, or are they the creators?
36.
Am khalaqoo assamawatiwal-arda bal la yooqinoon
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? No, in truth they have no certainty.
37.
Am AAindahum khaza-inu rabbika amhumu almusaytiroon
Or do they possess the treasuries of your Lord or do they have control of them?
38.
Am lahum sullamun yastamiAAoona feehifalya/ti mustamiAAuhum bisultanin mubeen
Or do they have a ladder on which they listen? Then let their listener bring clear evidence.
39.
Am lahu albanatu walakumu albanoon
Or does He have daughters whereas you have sons?
40.
Am tas-aluhum ajran fahum min maghraminmuthqaloon
Or do you ask them for a wage so they are weighed down with debt?
41.
Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboon
Or is the Unseen in their hands so they can write out what is to happen?
42.
Am yureedoona kaydan fallatheenakafaroo humu almakeedoon
Or do they desire to dupe you? But the duped ones are those who are kafir.
43.
Am lahum ilahun ghayru Allahisubhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoon
Or do they have some god other than Allah? Glory be to Allah above any idol they propose!
44.
Wa-in yaraw kisfan mina assama-isaqitan yaqooloo sahabun markoom
If they saw a lump of heaven falling down, they would just say, ‘Banked-up clouds!’
45.
Fatharhum hatta yulaqooyawmahumu allathee feehi yusAAaqoon
Leave them then until they meet their Day when they will be struck down by the Blast:
46.
Yawma la yughnee AAanhum kayduhumshay-an wala hum yunsaroon
the Day their ploys will not profit them at all and they will not be helped.
47.
Wa-inna lillatheena thalamooAAathaban doona thalika walakinna aktharahumla yaAAlamoon
And those who do wrong will have a punishment besides that but most of them do not know it.
48.
Wasbir lihukmi rabbikafa-innaka bi-aAAyunina wasabbih bihamdirabbika heena taqoom
So wait steadfastly for the judgement of your Lord – you are certainly before Our eyes. And glorify and praise your Lord when you get up.
49.
Wamina allayli fasabbihhu wa-idbaraannujoom
And glorify Him in the night and when the stars fade out.
