Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem
In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful

Walkitabi almubeen
By the Book which makes things clear.

Rahmatan min rabbika innahu huwa assameeAAualAAaleem
as a mercy from your Lord. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing:

Rabbi assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma in kuntum mooqineen
the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between them, if you are people with certainty.
8.

La ilaha illa huwa yuhyeewayumeetu rabbukum warabbu aba-ikumu al-awwaleen
There is no god but Him – He gives life and causes to die – your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers, the previous peoples.
9.
Bal hum fee shakkin yalAAaboon

Fartaqib yawma ta/tee assamaobidukhanin mubeen
So be on the watch for a day when heaven brings forth a distinctive smoke,
11.
Yaghsha annasa hathaAAathabun aleem
which enshrouds mankind. ‘This is a painful punishment!
12.
Rabbana ikshif AAanna alAAathabainna mu/minoon
Our Lord, remove the punishment from us. We are really muminun.’

Anna lahumu aththikrawaqad jaahum rasoolun mubeen
How can they expect a Reminder when a clear Messenger has already come to them?
14.
Thumma tawallaw AAanhu waqaloomuAAallamun majnoon
But then they turned away from him and said, ‘He is an instructed madman!’
15.
Inna kashifoo alAAathabiqaleelan innakum AAa-idoon
We remove the punishment a little, and you revert!

Yawma nabtishu albatshataalkubra inna muntaqimoon
On the day We launch the Great Assault We will certainly take Our revenge.
17.
Walaqad fatanna qablahum qawmafirAAawna wajaahum rasoolun kareem
Before them We put Pharaoh’s people to the test when a noble Messenger came to them, saying

An addoo ilayya AAibada Allahiinnee lakum rasoolun ameen
‘Hand over to me the slaves of Allah. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.’
19.

Wa-innee AAuthtu birabbee warabbikuman tarjumoon
I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me.

Wa-in lam tu/minoo lee faAAtaziloon
If you do not have iman in me, then at least leave me alone. ’

FadaAAa rabbahu anna haola-iqawmun mujrimoon
He called out to his Lord, ‘These are evildoing people. ’
23.
Faasri biAAibadee laylan innakummuttabaAAoon
‘Set out with My slaves by night. You will certainly be pursued.
24.
Watruki albahra rahwaninnahum jundun mughraqoon
Leave the sea divided as it is. They are an army who will be drowned.’
25.
Kam tarakoo min jannatin waAAuyoon
How many gardens and fountains they left behind,
26.
WazurooAAin wamaqamin kareem
and ripe crops and noble residences.
27.
WanaAAmatin kanoo feeha fakiheen
What comfort and ease they had delighted in!

Kathalika waawrathnahaqawman akhareen
So it was. Yet We bequeathed these things to another people.
29.
Fama bakat AAalayhimu assamaowal-ardu wama kanoo munthareen
Neither heaven nor earth shed any tears for them and they were granted no reprieve.
30.
Walaqad najjayna banee isra-eelamina alAAathabi almuheen
We rescued the tribe of Israel from the humiliating punishment,
31.
Min firAAawna innahu kana AAaliyanmina almusrifeen
from Pharaoh – he was haughty, one of the profligate.
32.
Walaqadi ikhtarnahum AAalaAAilmin AAala alAAalameen
We chose them knowingly above all other people
33.
Waataynahum mina al-ayatima feehi balaon mubeen
and We gave them Signs containing a clear trial.
34.
Inna haola-i layaqooloon
These people say,

In hiya illa mawtatuna al-oolawama nahnu bimunshareen
‘There is nothing more than our first death. We will not be raised up a second time.
36.
Fa/too bi-aba-ina inkuntum sadiqeen
Bring us our fathers if you are telling the truth. ’
37.
Ahum khayrun am qawmu tubbaAAin wallatheenamin qablihim ahlaknahum innahum kanoo mujrimeen
Are they better or the people of Tubba‘ and those before them whom We destroyed? They were certainly evildoers.
38.
Wama khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma laAAibeen
We did not create the heavens and the earth and everything between them as a game.
39.
Ma khalaqnahuma illabilhaqqi walakinna aktharahum layaAAlamoon
We did not create them except with truth but most of them do not know it.
40.
Inna yawma alfasli meeqatuhumajmaAAeen
The Day of Decision will be their appointment all together:

Yawma la yughnee mawlan AAan mawlanshay-an wala hum yunsaroon
the Day when friends will be of no use at all to one another, and they will not be helped –

Illa man rahima Allahuinnahu huwa alAAazeezu arraheem
except for those Allah has mercy on. He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful.

45.
Kalmuhli yaghlee fee albutoon
seething in the belly like molten brass,
46.
Kaghalyi alhameem
as boiling water bubbles and seethes.
47.
Khuthoohu faAAtiloohu ilasawa-i aljaheem
‘Seize him and drag him bodily into the middle of the Blazing Fire.
48.
Thumma subboo fawqa ra/sihi min AAathabialhameem
Then pour the punishment of boiling water on his head. ’

52.

amid gardens and fountains,
53.
Yalbasoona min sundusin wa-istabraqin mutaqabileen

Fadlan min rabbika thalikahuwa alfawzu alAAatheem
A favour from your Lord. That is the Great Victory.

Fa-innama yassarnahu bilisanikalaAAallahum yatathakkaroon
We have made it easy in your own tongue so that hopefully they will pay heed.
59.
Fartaqib innahum murtaqiboon
So watch and wait. They too are waiting.
