79. Surah An-Nazi'at Those who drag forth
Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem
In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful
1.
WannaziAAati gharqa
By those who pluck out harshly,
2.
Wannashitati nashta
and those who draw out gently,
3.
Wassabihati sabha
and those who glide serenely,
4.
Fassabiqati sabqa
and those who outrun easily,
5.
Falmudabbirati amra
and those who direct affairs.
6.
Yawma tarjufu arrajifa
On the Day the first blast shudders,
7.
TatbaAAuha arradifa
and the second blast follows it,
8.
Quloobun yawma-ithin wajifa
hearts that Day will be pounding
9.
Absaruha khashiAAa
and eyes will be cast down.
10.
Yaqooloona a-inna lamardoodoona feealhafira
They will say, ‘Are we to be restored to how we were?
11.
A-itha kunna AAithamannakhira
when we have become perished, worm-eaten bones?’
12.
Qaloo tilka ithan karratun khasira
They say, ‘That will clearly be a losing restoration!’
13.
Fa-innama hiya zajratun wahida
There will be but one Great Blast,
14.
Fa-itha hum bissahira
and at once they will be on the surface, wide awake!
15.
Hal ataka hadeethu moosa
Has the story of Musa reached you:
16.
Ith nadahu rabbuhu bilwadialmuqaddasi tuwa
when his Lord called out to him in the holy valley of Tuwa?
17.
Ithhab ila firAAawna innahu tagha
‘Go to Pharaoh – he has overstepped the limits –
18.
Faqul hal laka ila an tazakka
and say: "Do you resolve to purify yourself.
19.
Waahdiyaka ila rabbika fatakhsha
I will guide you to your Lord so that you may fear Him?"’
20.
Faarahu al-ayata alkubra
Then he showed him the Great Sign.
21.
Fakaththaba waAAasa
But he denied it and disobeyed,
22.
Thumma adbara yasAAa
and then he hastily backed away.
23.
Fahashara fanada
But then he rallied and called out,
24.
Faqala ana rabbukumu al-aAAla
saying, ‘I am your Lord Most High!’
25.
Faakhathahu Allahu nakalaal-akhirati wal-oola
So Allah made an example of him seizing him with punishment in the next World and this world.
26.
Inna fee thalika laAAibratan limanyakhsha
There is certainly instruction in that for those who fear.
27.
Aantum ashaddu khalqan ami assamaobanaha
Are you stronger in structure or is heaven? He built it.
28.
RafaAAa samkaha fasawwaha
He raised its vault high and made it level.
29.
Waaghtasha laylaha waakhraja duhaha
He darkened its night and brought forth its morning light.
30.
Wal-arda baAAda thalikadahaha
After that He smoothed out the earth
31.
Akhraja minha maahawamarAAaha
and brought forth from it its water and its pastureland
32.
Waljibala arsaha
and made the mountains firm,
33.
MataAAan lakum wali-anAAamikum
for you and for your livestock to enjoy.
34.
Fa-itha jaati attammatualkubra
When the Great Calamity comes:
35.
Yawma yatathakkaru al-insanu masaAAa
that Day man will remember what he has striven for
36.
Waburrizati aljaheemu liman yara
and the Blazing Fire will be displayed for all who can see.
37.
Faamma man tagha
As for him who overstepped the bounds
38.
Waathara alhayata addunya
and preferred the life of this world,
39.
Fa-inna aljaheema hiya alma/wa
the Blazing Fire will be his refuge.
40.
Waama man khafa maqamarabbihi wanaha annafsa AAani alhawa
But as for him who feared the Station of his Lord and forbade the lower self its appetites,
41.
Fa-inna aljannata hiya alma/wa
the Garden will be his refuge.
42.
Yas-aloonaka AAani assaAAatiayyana mursaha
They ask you about the Hour: ‘When will it come?’
43.
Feema anta min thikraha
What are you doing mentioning it?
44.
Ila rabbika muntahaha
Its coming is your Lord’s affair.
45.
Innama anta munthiru manyakhshaha
You are only the warner of those who fear it.
46.
Kaannahum yawma yarawnaha lamyalbathoo illa AAashiyyatan aw duhaha
On the Day they see it, it will be as if they had only lingered for the evening or the morning of a single day.
