83. Surah Al-Mutaffifin Defrauding
Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem
In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful
1.
Waylun lilmutaffifeen
Woe to the stinters!
2.
Allatheena itha iktalooAAala annasi yastawfoon
Those who, when they take a measure from people, exact full measure,
3.
Wa-itha kaloohum aw wazanoohumyukhsiroon
but when they give them a measure or weight, hand over less than is due.
4.
Ala yathunnu ola-ikaannahum mabAAoothoon
Do such people not realise that they will be raised up
5.
Liyawmin AAatheem
on a Terrible Day,
6.
Yawma yaqoomu annasu lirabbialAAalameen
the Day mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds?
7.
Kalla inna kitaba alfujjarilafee sijjeen
No indeed! The book of the dissolute is in Sijjin.
8.
Wama adraka ma sijjeen
And what will convey to you what Sijjin is?
9.
Kitabun marqoom
A clearly written Book.
10.
Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen
Woe that Day to the deniers:
11.
Allatheena yukaththiboonabiyawmi addeen
those who deny the Day of Reckoning.
12.
Wama yukaththibu bihi illakullu muAAtadin atheem
No one denies it except for every evil aggressor.
13.
Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatunaqala asateeru al-awwaleen
When Our Signs are recited to him, he says, ‘Just myths and legends of the previous peoples!’
14.
Kalla bal rana AAalaquloobihim ma kanoo yaksiboon
No indeed! Rather what they have earned has rusted up their hearts.
15.
Kalla innahum AAan rabbihim yawma-ithinlamahjooboon
No indeed! Rather that Day they will be veiled from their Lord.
16.
Thumma innahum lasaloo aljaheem
Then they will roast in the Blazing Fire.
17.
Thumma yuqalu hatha allatheekuntum bihi tukaththiboon
Then they will be told, ‘This is what you denied. ’
18.
Kalla inna kitaba al-abrarilafee AAilliyyeen
No indeed! The book of the truly good is in ‘Illiyun.
19.
Wama adraka maAAilliyyoon
And what will convey to you what ‘Illiyun is?
20.
Kitabun marqoom
A clearly written book.
21.
Yashhaduhu almuqarraboon
Those brought near will witness it.
22.
Inna al-abrara lafee naAAeem
The truly good will be in perfect Bliss
23.
AAala al-ara-iki yanthuroon
on couches gazing in wonder.
24.
TaAArifu fee wujoohihim nadrata annaAAeem
You will recognise in their faces the radiance of delight.
25.
Yusqawna min raheeqin makhtoom
They are given the choicest sealed wine to drink,
26.
Khitamuhu miskun wafee thalikafalyatanafasi almutanafisoon
whose seal is musk – let people with aspiration aspire to that! –
27.
Wamizajuhu min tasneem
mixed with Tasnim:
28.
AAaynan yashrabu biha almuqarraboon
a fountain at which Those Brought Near will drink.
29.
Inna allatheena ajramoo kanoomina allatheena amanoo yadhakoon
Those who did evil used to laugh at those who had iman.
30.
Wa-itha marroo bihim yataghamazoon
When they passed by them, they would wink at one another.
31.
Wa-itha inqalaboo ila ahlihimuinqalaboo fakiheen
When they returned to their families, they would make a joke of them.
32.
Wa-itha raawhum qaloo inna haola-iladalloon
When they saw them, they would say, ‘Those people are misguided. ’
33.
Wama orsiloo AAalayhim hafitheen
But they were not sent as guardians over them.
34.
Falyawma allatheena amanoomina alkuffari yadhakoon
So today those who have iman are laughing at the kuffar,
35.
AAala al-ara-iki yanthuroon
on couches, gazing in wonder.
36.
Hal thuwwiba alkuffaru ma kanooyafAAaloon
Have the kuffar been rewarded for what they did?
