48. Surah Al-Fath The Victory
Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem
In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful
1.
Inna fatahna laka fathanmubeena
Truly We have granted you a clear victory,
2.
Liyaghfira laka Allahu mataqaddama min thanbika wama taakhkhara wayutimmaniAAmatahu AAalayka wayahdiyaka siratan mustaqeema
so that Allah may forgive you your earlier errors and any later ones and complete His blessing upon you, and guide you on a Straight Path.
3.
Wayansuraka Allahu nasranAAazeeza
and so that Allah may help you with a mighty help.
4.
Huwa allathee anzala assakeenatafee quloobi almu/mineena liyazdadoo eemanan maAAaeemanihim walillahi junoodu assamawatiwal-ardi wakana Allahu AAaleeman hakeema
It is He who sent down serenity into the hearts of the muminun thereby increasing their iman with more iman – the legions of the heavens and the earth belong to Allah. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise –
5.
Liyudkhila almu/mineena walmu/minatijannatin tajree min tahtiha al-anharukhalideena feeha wayukaffira AAanhum sayyi-atihimwakana thalika AAinda Allahi fawzan AAatheema
so that He may admit the men and women of the muminun into Gardens with rivers flowing under them, remaining in them timelessly, for ever, and erase their bad actions from them; and in Allah’s sight that is a mighty victory.
6.
WayuAAaththiba almunafiqeena walmunafiqatiwalmushrikeena walmushrikati aththanneenabillahi thanna assaw-iAAalayhim da-iratu assaw-i waghadiba AllahuAAalayhim walaAAanahum waaAAadda lahum jahannama wasaat maseera
And so that He might punish the men and women of the hypocrites and the men and women of the idolaters – those who think bad thoughts about Allah. They will suffer an evil turn of fate. Allah is angry with them, and has cursed them and prepared Hell for them. What an evil destination!
7.
Walillahi junoodu assamawatiwal-ardi wakana Allahu AAazeezan hakeema
The legions of the heavens and the earth belong to Allah. Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.
8.
Inna arsalnaka shahidanwamubashshiran wanatheera
We have sent you bearing witness, bringing good news and giving warning
9.
Litu/minoo billahi warasoolihiwatuAAazziroohu watuwaqqiroohu watusabbihoohu bukratan waaseela
so that you might all have iman in Allah and His Messenger and honour Him and respect Him and glorify Him in the morning and the evening.
10.
Inna allatheena yubayiAAoonakainnama yubayiAAoona Allaha yadu Allahifawqa aydeehim faman nakatha fa-innama yankuthu AAalanafsihi waman awfa bima AAahada AAalayhu Allahafasayu/teehi ajran AAatheema
Those who pledge you their allegiance pledge allegiance to Allah. Allah’s hand is over their hands. He who breaks his pledge only breaks it against himself. But as for him who fulfils the contract he has made with Allah, We will pay him an immense reward.
11.
Sayaqoolu laka almukhallafoona mina al-aAArabishaghalatna amwaluna waahloona fastaghfirlana yaqooloona bi-alsinatihim ma laysa feequloobihim qul faman yamliku lakum mina Allahi shay-an inarada bikum darran aw arada bikum nafAAanbal kana Allahu bima taAAmaloona khabeera
Those Arabs who remained behind will say to you, ‘Our wealth and families kept us occupied, so ask forgiveness for us. ’ They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: ‘Who can control Allah for you in any way whether He wants harm for you or wants benefit for you?’ Allah is aware of what you do.
12.
Bal thanantum an lan yanqalibaarrasoolu walmu/minoona ila ahleehimabadan wazuyyina thalika fee quloobikum wathanantumthanna assaw-i wakuntum qawman boora
No, you thought that the Messenger and the muminun were not going to return to their families, and that seemed pleasing to your hearts and you thought evil thoughts and you were a blighted people.
13.
Waman lam yu/min billahiwarasoolihi fa-inna aAAtadna lilkafireenasaAAeera
Whoever does not have iman in Allah and His Messenger – We have prepared a Blazing Fire for the kafirun.
14.
Walillahi mulku assamawatiwal-ardi yaghfiru liman yashao wayuAAaththibuman yashao wakana Allahu ghafooran raheema
The kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. He forgives those He wills and punishes those He wills. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
15.
Sayaqoolu almukhallafoona itha intalaqtumila maghanima lita/khuthooha tharoonanattabiAAkum yureedoona an yubaddiloo kalama Allahiqul lan tattabiAAoona kathalikum qala Allahumin qablu fasayaqooloona bal tahsudoonana bal kanoola yafqahoona illa qaleela
When you go out to get the booty, those who remained behind will say, ‘Allow us to follow you,’ desiring to alter Allah’s words. Say: ‘You may not follow us. That is what Allah said before.’ They will say, ‘It is only because you envy us.’ No indeed! How little they have understood!
16.
Qul lilmukhallafeena mina al-aAArabisatudAAawna ila qawmin olee ba/sin shadeedin tuqatiloonahumaw yuslimoona fa-in tuteeAAoo yu/tikumu Allahuajran hasanan wa-in tatawallaw kama tawallaytum minqablu yuAAaththibkum AAathaban aleema
Say to the Arabs who remained behind: ‘You will be called up against a people who possess great force whom you must fight unless they submit. If you obey, Allah will give you an excellent reward. But if you turn your backs as you did before, He will punish you with a painful punishment.’
17.
Laysa AAala al-aAAma harajunwala AAala al-aAAraji harajun walaAAala almareedi harajun waman yutiAAiAllaha warasoolahu yudkhilhu jannatin tajree min tahtihaal-anharu waman yatawalla yuAAaththibhu AAathabanaleema
There is no constraint on the blind, nor on the lame, nor on the sick. We will admit all who obey Allah and His Messenger into Gardens with rivers flowing under them. But We will punish with a painful punishment anyone who turns his back.
18.
Laqad radiya Allahu AAanialmu/mineena ith yubayiAAoonaka tahta ashshajaratifaAAalima ma fee quloobihim faanzala asakeenataAAalayhim waathabahum fathan qareeba
Allah was pleased with the muminun when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree. He knew what was in their hearts, and sent down serenity to them and has rewarded them with an imminent victory,
19.
Wamaghanima katheeratan ya/khuthoonahawakana Allahu AAazeezan hakeema
and with much booty which they will take. Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.
20.
WaAAadakumu Allahu maghanimakatheeratan ta/khuthoonaha faAAajjala lakum hathihiwakaffa aydiya annasi AAankum walitakoona ayatanlilmu/mineena wayahdiyakum siratan mustaqeema
Allah has promised you much booty which you will take, and has hastened this for you and held people’s hands back from you, so that it might be a Sign to the muminun, and so that He might guide you to a straight path.
21.
Waokhra lam taqdiroo AAalayhaqad ahata Allahu biha wakana AllahuAAala kulli shay-in qadeera
And other booty you do not yet have the power to take – Allah has already encompassed it. Allah has power over all things.
22.
Walaw qatalakumu allatheenakafaroo lawallawoo al-adbara thumma la yajidoonawaliyyan wala naseera
If those who are kafir should fight you, they would turn their backs and then find no one to protect or help them.
23.
Sunnata Allahi allatee qad khalat minqablu walan tajida lisunnati Allahi tabdeela
That is Allah’s pattern which has passed away before. You will not find any changing in the pattern of Allah.
24.
Wahuwa allathee kaffa aydiyahumAAankum waaydiyakum AAanhum bibatni makkata min baAAdi anathfarakum AAalayhim wakana Allahubima taAAmaloona baseera
It is He who held their hands back from you, and your hands from them in the valley of Makka, after giving you the upper hand over them. Allah sees what you do.
25.
Humu allatheena kafaroo wasaddookumAAani almasjidi alharami walhadyamaAAkoofan an yablugha mahillahu walawla rijalunmu/minoona wanisaon mu/minatun lam taAAlamoohum antataoohum fatuseebakum minhum maAAarratun bighayriAAilmin liyudkhila Allahu fee rahmatihi man yashaolaw tazayyaloo laAAaththabna allatheenakafaroo minhum AAathaban aleema
They are those who were kafir and debarred you from the Masjid al-Haram and prevented the sacrifice from reaching its proper place, and had it not been for some men and women who are muminun, whom you did not know and might trample underfoot, and so unknowingly incur blame on their account – so that Allah might admit into His mercy those He wills – and had those among them who are kafir been clearly distinguishable, We would have punished them with a painful punishment.
26.
Ith jaAAala allatheena kafaroofee quloobihimu alhamiyyata hamiyyata aljahiliyyatifaanzala Allahu sakeenatahu AAala rasoolihi waAAalaalmu/mineena waalzamahum kalimata attaqwa wakanooahaqqa biha waahlaha wakana Allahubikulli shay-in AAaleema
Those who are kafir filled their hearts with fanatical rage – the fanatical rage of the Time of Ignorance and Allah sent down serenity to His Messenger and to the muminun, and bound them to the expression of taqwa which they had most right to and were most entitled to. Allah has knowledge of all things.
27.
Laqad sadaqa Allahu rasoolahuarru/ya bilhaqqi latadkhulunnaalmasjida alharama in shaa Allahu amineenamuhalliqeena ruoosakum wamuqassireena latakhafoona faAAalima ma lam taAAlamoo fajaAAala mindooni thalika fathan qareeba
Allah has confirmed His Messenger’s vision with truth: ‘You will enter the Masjid al-Haram in safety, Allah willing, shaving your heads and cutting your hair without any fear. ’ He knew what you did not know and ordained, in place of this, an imminent victory.
28.
Huwa allathee arsala rasoolahu bilhudawadeeni alhaqqi liyuthhirahu AAala addeenikullihi wakafa billahi shaheeda
It is He who sent His Messenger with the Guidance and the Deen of Truth to exalt it over every other deen and Allah suffices as a witness.
29.
Muhammadun rasoolu Allahi wallatheenamaAAahu ashiddao AAala alkuffari ruhamaobaynahum tarahum rukkaAAan sujjadan yabtaghoona fadlanmina Allahi waridwanan seemahum feewujoohihim min athari assujoodi thalika mathaluhumfee attawrati wamathaluhum fee al-injeelikazarAAin akhraja shat-ahu faazarahu fastaghlathafastawa AAala sooqihi yuAAjibu azzurraAAaliyagheetha bihimu alkuffara waAAada Allahuallatheena amanoo waAAamiloo assalihatiminhum maghfiratan waajran AAatheema
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are fierce to the kafirun, merciful to one another. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking Allah’s good favour and His pleasure. Their mark is on their faces, the traces of prostration. That is their likeness in the Torah. And their likeness in the Injil is that of a seed which puts up a shoot and makes it strong so that it thickens and grows up straight upon its stalk, filling the sowers with delight – so that by them He may infuriate the kuffar. Allah has promised those of them who have iman and do right actions forgiveness and an immense reward.
