  • بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

    Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

    In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful

  • 1.

    اِقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ

    Iqtarabati assaAAatu wanshaqqaalqamar

    The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split.

  • 2.

    وَاِنْ يَرَوْا اٰيَةً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْرٌ مُسْتَمِرٌّ

    Wa-in yaraw ayatan yuAAridoowayaqooloo sihrun mustamirr

    If they see a Sign they turn away, saying ‘There is no end to this witchcraft!’

  • 3.

    وَكَذَّبُوا وَاتَّبَعُٓوا اَهْوَٓاءَهُمْ وَكُلُّ اَمْرٍ مُسْتَقِرٌّ

    Wakaththaboo wattabaAAoo ahwaahumwakullu amrin mustaqirr

    They have denied the truth and followed their whims and desires, but everything has its time.

  • 4.

    وَلَقَدْ جَٓاءَهُمْ مِنَ الْاَنْـبَٓاءِ مَا ف۪يهِ مُزْدَجَرٌۙ

    Walaqad jaahum mina al-anba-i mafeehi muzdajar

    News has come to them which contains a threat:

  • 5.

    حِكْمَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ فَمَا تُغْنِ النُّذُرُۙ

    Hikmatun balighatun famatughnee annuthur

    consummate wisdom – but warnings are profitless.

  • 6.

    فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْۢ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ اِلٰى شَيْءٍ نُكُرٍۙ

    Fatawalla AAanhum yawma yadAAu addaAAiila shay-in nukur

    Turn away from them then. On the Day the Summoner summons them to something unspeakably terrible,

  • 7.

    خُشَّعاً اَبْصَارُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْاَجْدَاثِ كَاَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُنْتَشِرٌۙ

    KhushshaAAan absaruhum yakhrujoonamina al-ajdathi kaannahum jaradun muntashir

    they will emerge from their graves with downcast eyes, like swarming locusts,

  • 8.

    مُهْطِع۪ينَ اِلَى الدَّاعِۜ يَقُولُ الْـكَافِرُونَ هٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ

    MuhtiAAeena ila addaAAiyaqoolu alkafiroona hatha yawmun AAasir

    necks outstretched, eyes transfixed, rushing headlong to the Summoner. The kuffar will say, ‘This is a pitiless day!’

  • 9.

    كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَـكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُونٌ وَازْدُجِرَ

    Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohinfakaththaboo AAabdana waqaloo majnoonun wazdujir

    Before them the people of Nuh denied the truth. They denied Our slave, saying, ‘He is madman,’ and he was driven away with jeers.

  • 10.

    فَدَعَا رَبَّهُٓ اَنّ۪ي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ

    FadaAAa rabbahu annee maghloobun fantasir

    He called upon his Lord: ‘I am overwhelmed, so help me!’

  • 11.

    فَفَتَحْنَٓا اَبْوَابَ السَّمَٓاءِ بِمَٓاءٍ مُنْهَمِرٍۘ

    Fafatahna abwaba assama-ibima-in munhamir

    So We opened the gates of heaven with torrential water

  • 12.

    وَفَجَّرْنَا الْاَرْضَ عُيُوناً فَالْتَقَى الْمَٓاءُ عَلٰٓى اَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَۚ

    Wafajjarna al-arda AAuyoonanfaltaqa almao AAala amrin qad qudir

    and made the earth burst forth with gushing springs. And the waters met together in a way which was decreed.

  • 13.

    وَحَمَلْنَاهُ عَلٰى ذَاتِ اَلْوَاحٍ وَدُسُرٍۙ

    Wahamalnahu AAala thatialwahin wadusur

    We bore him on a planked and well-caulked ship,

  • 14.

    تَجْر۪ي بِاَعْيُنِنَاۚ جَزَٓاءً لِمَنْ كَانَ كُفِرَ

    Tajree bi-aAAyunina jazaanliman kana kufir

    which ran before Our eyes – a reward for him who had been rejected.

  • 15.

    وَلَقَدْ تَرَكْنَاهَٓا اٰيَةً فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

    Walaqad taraknaha ayatanfahal min muddakir

    We left it as a Sign. But is there any rememberer there?

  • 16.

    فَـكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

    Fakayfa kana AAathabee wanuthur

    How terrible were My punishment and warnings!

  • 17.

    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

    Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakir

    We have made the Qur’an easy to remember. But is there any rememberer there?

  • 18.

    كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَـكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

    Kaththabat AAadun fakayfa kanaAAathabee wanuthur

    ‘Ad denied the truth. How terrible were My punishment and warnings!

  • 19.

    اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ ر۪يحاً صَرْصَراً ف۪ي يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُسْتَمِرٍّۙ

    Inna arsalna AAalayhim reehansarsaran fee yawmi nahsin mustamirr

    We unleashed a howling wind against them on a day of unremitting horror.

  • 20.

    تَنْزِ عُ النَّاسَۙ كَاَنَّهُمْ اَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُنْقَعِرٍ

    TanziAAu annasa kaannahumaAAjazu nakhlin munqaAAir

    It plucked up men like uprooted stumps.

  • 21.

    فَـكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

    Fakayfa kana AAathabee wanuthur

    How terrible were My punishment and warnings!

  • 22.

    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ۟

    Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakir

    We have made the Qur’an easy to remember. But is there any rememberer there?

  • 23.

    كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِالنُّذُرِ

    Kaththabat thamoodu binnuthur

    Thamud denied the warnings.

  • 24.

    فَقَالُٓوا اَبَشَراً مِنَّا وَاحِداً نَتَّبِعُهُٓۙ اِنَّٓا اِذاً لَف۪ي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ

    Faqaloo abasharan minna wahidannattabiAAuhu inna ithan lafee dalalinwasuAAur

    They said, ‘Are we to follow a human being, one of us? Then we would truly be misguided, quite insane!

  • 25.

    ءَاُلْقِيَ الذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ اَشِرٌ

    Aolqiya aththikru AAalayhimin baynina bal huwa kaththabun ashir

    Has the Reminder been given to him of all of us? No indeed! He is an impudent liar. ’

  • 26.

    سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَداً مَنِ الْـكَذَّابُ الْاَشِرُ

    SayaAAlamoona ghadan mani alkaththabual-ashir

    ‘They will know tomorrow who the impudent liar is.

  • 27.

    اِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا النَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَهُمْ فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ وَاصْطَبِرْۘ

    Inna mursiloo annaqatifitnatan lahum fartaqibhum wastabir

    We will send the she-camel as a trial for them. Just keep a watchful eye on them and be steadfast.

  • 28.

    وَنَبِّئْهُمْ اَنَّ الْمَٓاءَ قِسْمَةٌ بَيْنَهُمْۚ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُحْتَضَرٌ

    Wanabbi/hum anna almaa qismatunbaynahum kullu shirbin muhtadar

    Inform them that the water is to be shared out between them, each drinking by turn. ’

  • 29.

    فَنَادَوْا صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطٰى فَعَقَرَ

    Fanadaw sahibahum fataAAatafaAAaqar

    They called on their companion and he set to it and hamstrung her.

  • 30.

    فَـكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

    Fakayfa kana AAathabee wanuthur

    How terrible were My punishment and warnings!

  • 31.

    اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَـكَانُوا كَـهَش۪يمِ الْمُحْتَظِرِ

    Inna arsalna AAalayhim sayhatanwahidatan fakanoo kahasheemi almuhtathir

    We sent a single Blast against them and they were just like a thatcher’s reeds.

  • 32.

    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

    Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakir

    We have made the Qur’an easy to remember. But is there any rememberer there?

  • 33.

    كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ بِالنُّذُرِ

    Kaththabat qawmu lootin binnuthur

    The people of Lut denied the warnings.

  • 34.

    اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِباً اِلَّٓا اٰلَ لُوطٍۜ نَجَّيْنَاهُمْ بِسَحَرٍۙ

    Inna arsalna AAalayhim hasibanilla ala lootin najjaynahum bisahar

    We unleashed a sudden squall of stones against all of them, except the family of Lut, who We rescued before dawn.

  • 35.

    نِعْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِنَاۜ كَذٰلِكَ نَجْز۪ي مَنْ شَكَرَ

    NiAAmatan min AAindina kathalikanajzee man shakar

    It was a blessing direct from Our presence. That is how We recompense those who give thanks.

  • 36.

    وَلَقَدْ اَنْذَرَهُمْ بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا بِالنُّذُرِ

    Walaqad antharahum batshatanafatamaraw binnuthur

    He warned them of Our onslaught but they dismissed the warnings.

  • 37.

    وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدُوهُ عَنْ ضَيْفِه۪ فَطَمَسْنَٓا اَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

    Walaqad rawadoohu AAan dayfihifatamasna aAAyunahum fathooqoo AAathabeewanuthur

    They even wanted to seduce his guests! So We put out their eyes: ‘Taste My punishment and warnings!’

  • 38.

    وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُمْ بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُسْتَقِرٌّۚ

    Walaqad sabbahahum bukratanAAathabun mustaqirr

    Early morning brought them enduring punishment:

  • 39.

    فَذُوقُوا عَذَاب۪ي وَنُذُرِ

    Fathooqoo AAathabee wanuthur

    ‘Taste My punishment and warnings!’

  • 40.

    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ۟

    Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakir

    We have made the Qur’an easy to remember But is there any rememberer there?

  • 41.

    وَلَقَدْ جَٓاءَ اٰلَ فِرْعَوْنَ النُّذُرُۚ

    Walaqad jaa ala firAAawna annuthur

    Warnings came to Pharaoh’s people.

  • 42.

    كَذَّبُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَاَخَذْنَاهُمْ اَخْذَ عَز۪يزٍ مُقْتَدِرٍ

    Kaththaboo bi-ayatinakulliha faakhathnahum akhthaAAazeezin muqtadir

    They dismissed every one of Our Signs and so We seized them with the seizing of One who is Almighty, All-Powerful.

  • 43.

    اَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ اُو۬لٰٓئِكُمْ اَمْ لَـكُمْ بَرَٓاءَةٌ فِي الزُّبُرِۚ

    Akuffarukum khayrun min ola-ikumam lakum baraatun fee azzubur

    Are your kuffar better than those peoples’? Or have you been given exemption in the Books?

  • 44.

    اَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَم۪يعٌ مُنْتَصِرٌ

    Am yaqooloona nahnu jameeAAun muntasir

    Or do they say, ‘We are an assembly who will win’?

  • 45.

    سَيُهْزَمُ الْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ الدُّبُرَ

    Sayuhzamu aljamAAu wayuwalloona addubur

    The assembly will be routed and will turn their backs in flight.

  • 46.

    بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ اَدْهٰى وَاَمَرُّ

    Bali assaAAatu mawAAiduhum wassaAAatuadha waamar

    In fact the Hour is their promised appointment and the Hour is more disastrous and bitter!

  • 47.

    اِنَّ الْمُجْرِم۪ينَ ف۪ي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍۢ

    Inna almujrimeena fee dalalinwasuAAur

    The evildoers are indeed misguided and insane

  • 48.

    يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِي النَّارِ عَلٰى وُجُوهِهِمْۜ ذُوقُوا مَسَّ سَقَرَ

    Yawma yushaboona fee annariAAala wujoohihim thooqoo massa saqar

    on the Day that they are dragged face-first into the Fire: ‘Taste the scorching touch of Saqar!’

  • 49.

    اِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ

    Inna kulla shay-in khalaqnahubiqadar

    We have created all things in due measure.

  • 50.

    وَمَٓا اَمْرُنَٓا اِلَّا وَاحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍ بِالْبَصَرِ

    Wama amruna illa wahidatunkalamhin bilbasar

    Our command is only one word, like the blinking of an eye.

  • 51.

    وَلَقَدْ اَهْلَكْنَٓا اَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

    Walaqad ahlakna ashyaAAakumfahal min muddakir

    We destroyed those of your kind in the past. But is there any rememberer there?

  • 52.

    وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِي الزُّبُرِ

    Wakullu shay-in faAAaloohu fee azzubur

    Everything they did is in the Books.

  • 53.

    وَكُلُّ صَغ۪يرٍ وَكَب۪يرٍ مُسْتَطَرٌ

    Wakullu sagheerin wakabeerin mustatar

    Everything is recorded, big or small.

  • 54.

    اِنَّ الْمُتَّق۪ينَ ف۪ي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَهَرٍۙ

    Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwanahar

    The people who have taqwa will be amid Gardens and Rivers,

  • 55.

    ف۪ي مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَ مَل۪يكٍ مُقْتَدِرٍ

    Fee maqAAadi sidqin AAinda maleekinmuqtadir

    on seats of honour in the presence of an All-Powerful King.
