  • بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

    Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

    In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful

  • 1.

    طٰسٓ۠ تِلْكَ اٰيَاتُ الْقُرْاٰنِ وَكِتَابٍ مُب۪ينٍۙ

    Ta-seen tilka ayatualqur-ani wakitabin mubeen

    Ta Sin. Those are the Signs of the Qur’an and a Clear Book.

  • 2.

    هُدًى وَبُشْرٰى لِلْمُؤْمِن۪ينَۙ

    Hudan wabushra lilmu/mineen

    It is guidance and good news for the muminun,

  • 3.

    اَلَّذ۪ينَ يُق۪يمُونَ الصَّلٰوةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ الزَّكٰوةَ وَهُمْ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ

    Allatheena yuqeemoona assalatawayu/toona azzakata wahum bil-akhiratihum yooqinoon

    those who establish salat and pay zakat and are certain about the Next World.

  • 4.

    اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ زَيَّنَّا لَهُمْ اَعْمَالَهُمْ فَهُمْ يَعْمَهُونَۜ

    Inna allatheena la yu/minoonabil-akhirati zayyanna lahum aAAmalahumfahum yaAAmahoon

    As for those who do not have iman in the Next World. We have made their actions appear good to them and they wander about blindly.

  • 5.

    اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ لَهُمْ سُٓوءُ الْعَذَابِ وَهُمْ فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ هُمُ الْاَخْسَرُونَ

    Ola-ika allatheena lahum soo-oalAAathabi wahum fee al-akhirati humu al-akhsaroon

    Such people will receive an evil punishment and will be the greatest losers in the Next World.

  • 6.

    وَاِنَّكَ لَتُلَقَّى الْقُرْاٰنَ مِنْ لَدُنْ حَك۪يمٍ عَل۪يمٍ

    Wa-innaka latulaqqa alqur-anamin ladun hakeemin AAaleem

    You receive the Qur’an directly from One who is All-Wise, All-Knowing.

  • 7.

    اِذْ قَالَ مُوسٰى لِاَهْلِه۪ٓ اِنّ۪ٓي اٰنَسْتُ نَاراًۜ سَاٰت۪يكُمْ مِنْهَا بِخَبَرٍ اَوْ اٰت۪يكُمْ بِشِهَابٍ قَبَسٍ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَصْطَلُونَ

    Ith qala moosa li-ahlihiinnee anastu naran saateekum minhabikhabarin aw ateekum bishihabin qabasinlaAAallakum tastaloon

    When Musa said to his people, ‘I can make out a fire. I will bring you news from it or at least a burning brand so that hopefully you will be able to warm yourselves.’

  • 8.

    فَلَمَّا جَٓاءَهَا نُودِيَ اَنْ بُورِكَ مَنْ فِي النَّارِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهَاۜ وَسُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَم۪ينَ

    Falamma jaaha noodiya anboorika man fee annari waman hawlahawasubhana Allahi rabbi alAAalameen

    But when he reached it, a voice called out to him, ‘Blessed be Him who is in the Fire and all who are around it. Glory be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds!

  • 9.

    يَا مُوسٰٓى اِنَّـهُٓ اَنَا اللّٰهُ الْعَز۪يزُ الْحَك۪يمُۙ

    Ya moosa innahu ana AllahualAAazeezu alhakeem

    Musa, I am Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise.

  • 10.

    وَاَلْقِ عَصَاكَۜ فَلَمَّا رَاٰهَا تَهْتَزُّ كَاَنَّهَا جَٓانٌّ وَلّٰى مُدْبِراً وَلَمْ يُعَقِّبْۜ يَا مُوسٰى لَا تَخَفْ اِنّ۪ي لَا يَخَافُ لَدَيَّ الْمُرْسَلُونَۗ

    Waalqi AAasaka falamma raahatahtazzu kaannaha jannun walla mudbiranwalam yuAAaqqib ya moosa la takhaf innee layakhafu ladayya almursaloon

    Throw down your staff. ’ Then when he saw it slithering like a snake he turned and fled and did not turn back again. ‘Have no fear, Musa. In My Presence the Messengers have no fear –

  • 11.

    اِلَّا مَنْ ظَلَمَ ثُمَّ بَدَّلَ حُسْناً بَعْدَ سُٓوءٍ فَاِنّ۪ي غَفُورٌ رَح۪يمٌ

    Illa man thalama thummabaddala husnan baAAda soo-in fa-innee ghafoorun raheem

    except for one who did wrong and then changed evil into good – for I am Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

  • 12.

    وَاَدْخِلْ يَدَكَ ف۪ي جَيْبِكَ تَخْرُجْ بَيْضَٓاءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سُٓوءٍ ف۪ي تِسْعِ اٰيَاتٍ اِلٰى فِرْعَوْنَ وَقَوْمِه۪ۜ اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْماً فَاسِق۪ينَ

    Waadkhil yadaka fee jaybika takhruj baydaamin ghayri soo-in fee tisAAi ayatin ilafirAAawna waqawmihi innahum kanoo qawman fasiqeen

    Put your hand inside your shirt front. It will emerge pure white, yet quite unharmed – one of nine Signs to Pharaoh and his people. They are a people of deviators.’

  • 13.

    فَلَمَّا جَٓاءَتْهُمْ اٰيَاتُنَا مُبْصِرَةً قَالُوا هٰذَا سِحْرٌ مُب۪ينٌۚ

    Falamma jaat-hum ayatunamubsiratan qaloo hatha sihrun mubeen

    When Our Signs came to them in all their clarity, they said, ‘This is downright magic,’

  • 14.

    وَجَحَدُوا بِهَا وَاسْتَيْقَنَتْهَٓا اَنْفُسُهُمْ ظُلْماً وَعُلُواًّۜ فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُفْسِد۪ينَ۟

    Wajahadoo biha wastayqanat-haanfusuhum thulman waAAuluwwan fanthurkayfa kana AAaqibatu almufsideen

    and they repudiated them wrongly and haughtily, in spite of their own certainty about them. See the final fate of the corrupters.

  • 15.

    وَلَقَدْ اٰتَيْنَا دَاوُ۫دَ وَسُلَيْمٰنَ عِلْماًۚ وَقَالَا الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذ۪ي فَضَّلَنَا عَلٰى كَث۪يرٍ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ

    Walaqad atayna dawoodawasulaymana AAilman waqala alhamdulillahi allathee faddalana AAalakatheerin min AAibadihi almu/mineen

    We gave knowledge to Dawud and Sulayman who said, ‘Praise be to Allah who has favoured us over many of His slaves who are muminun. ’

  • 16.

    وَوَرِثَ سُلَيْمٰنُ دَاوُ۫دَ وَقَالَ يَٓا اَيُّهَا النَّاسُ عُلِّمْنَا مَنْطِقَ الطَّيْرِ وَاُو۫ت۪ينَا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍۜ اِنَّ هٰذَا لَهُوَ الْفَضْلُ الْمُب۪ينُ

    Wawaritha sulaymanu dawoodawaqala ya ayyuha annasuAAullimna mantiqa attayri waooteenamin kulli shay-in inna hatha lahuwa alfadlualmubeen

    Sulayman was Dawud’s heir. He said, ‘Mankind! we have been taught the speech of birds and we have been given everything. This is indeed clear favour.’

  • 17.

    وَحُشِرَ لِسُلَيْمٰنَ جُنُودُهُ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْاِنْسِ وَالطَّيْرِ فَهُمْ يُوزَعُونَ

    Wahushira lisulaymanajunooduhu mina aljinni wal-insi wattayrifahum yoozaAAoon

    Sulayman’s troops, made up of jinn and men and birds, were assembled for him, paraded in tight ranks.

  • 18.

    حَتّٰٓى اِذَٓا اَتَوْا عَلٰى وَادِ النَّمْلِۙ قَالَتْ نَمْلَةٌ يَٓا اَيُّهَا النَّمْلُ ادْخُلُوا مَسَاكِنَكُمْۚ لَا يَحْطِمَنَّكُمْ سُلَيْمٰنُ وَجُنُودُهُۙ وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

    Hatta itha ataw AAalawadi annamli qalat namlatun ya ayyuhaannamlu odkhuloo masakinakum la yahtimannakumsulaymanu wajunooduhu wahum la yashAAuroon

    Then, when they reached the Valley of the Ants, an ant said, ‘Ants! enter your dwellings so that Sulayman and his troops do not crush you unwittingly. ’

  • 19.

    فَتَبَسَّمَ ضَاحِكاً مِنْ قَوْلِهَا وَقَالَ رَبِّ اَوْزِعْن۪ٓي اَنْ اَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّت۪ٓي اَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلٰى وَالِدَيَّ وَاَنْ اَعْمَلَ صَالِحاً تَرْضٰيهُ وَاَدْخِلْن۪ي بِرَحْمَتِكَ ف۪ي عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِح۪ينَ

    Fatabassama dahikan min qawlihawaqala rabbi awziAAnee an ashkura niAAmataka allateeanAAamta AAalayya waAAala walidayya waan aAAmala salihantardahu waadkhilnee birahmatika fee AAibadikaassaliheen

    He smiled, laughing at its words, and said, ‘My Lord, keep me thankful for the blessing You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and keep me acting rightly, pleasing You, and admit me, by Your mercy, among Your slaves who are righteous. ’

  • 20.

    وَتَفَقَّدَ الطَّيْرَ فَقَالَ مَا لِيَ لَٓا اَرَى الْهُدْهُدَۘ اَمْ كَانَ مِنَ الْغَٓائِب۪ينَ

    Watafaqqada attayra faqalama liya la ara alhudhuda am kana minaalgha-ibeen

    He inspected the birds and said, ‘How is it that I do not see the hoopoe? Or is it absent without leave?

  • 21.

    لَاُعَذِّبَنَّهُ عَذَاباً شَد۪يداً اَوْ لَا۬اَذْبَحَنَّهُٓ اَوْ لَيَأْتِيَنّ۪ي بِسُلْطَانٍ مُب۪ينٍ

    LaoAAaththibannahu AAathabanshadeedan aw laathbahannahu aw laya/tiyannee bisultaninmubeen

    I will certainly punish it most severely or slaughter it if it does not bring me clear authority. ’

  • 22.

    فَمَكَثَ غَيْرَ بَع۪يدٍ فَقَالَ اَحَطْتُ بِمَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِه۪ وَجِئْتُكَ مِنْ سَبَأٍ بِنَبَأٍ يَق۪ينٍ

    Famakatha ghayra baAAeedin faqala ahattubima lam tuhit bihi waji/tuka min saba-inbinaba-in yaqeen

    However, it was not long delayed, and then it said, ‘I have comprehended something you have not and bring you accurate intelligence from Sheba.

  • 23.

    اِنّ۪ي وَجَدْتُ امْرَاَةً تَمْلِكُهُمْ وَاُو۫تِيَتْ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَلَهَا عَرْشٌ عَظ۪يمٌ

    Innee wajadtu imraatan tamlikuhum waootiyatmin kulli shay-in walaha AAarshun AAatheem

    I found a woman ruling over them who has been given everything. She possesses a mighty throne.

  • 24.

    وَجَدْتُهَا وَقَوْمَهَا يَسْجُدُونَ لِلشَّمْسِ مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ اَعْمَالَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ السَّب۪يلِ فَهُمْ لَا يَهْتَدُونَۙ

    Wajadtuha waqawmaha yasjudoonalishshamsi min dooni Allahi wazayyana lahumu ashshaytanuaAAmalahum fasaddahum AAani assabeeli fahumla yahtadoon

    I found both her and her people prostrating to the sun instead of Allah. Shaytan has made their actions seem good to them and debarred them from the Way so they are not guided

  • 25.

    اَلَّا يَسْجُدُوا لِلّٰهِ الَّذ۪ي يُخْرِجُ الْخَبْءَ فِي السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تُخْفُونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ

    Alla yasjudoo lillahi allatheeyukhriju alkhabaa fee assamawati wal-ardiwayaAAlamu ma tukhfoona wama tuAAlinoon

    and do not prostrate to Allah, Who brings out what is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and knows what you conceal and what you divulge.

  • 26.

    اَللّٰهُ لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظ۪يمِ

    Allahu la ilaha illahuwa rabbu alAAarshi alAAatheem

    Allah – there is no god but Him – the Lord of the Mighty Throne. ’

  • 27.

    قَالَ سَنَنْظُرُ اَصَدَقْتَ اَمْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الْكَاذِب۪ينَ

    Qala sananthuru asadaqtaam kunta mina alkathibeen

    He said, ‘We will soon see if you have told the truth or are a liar.

  • 28.

    اِذْهَبْ بِكِتَاب۪ي هٰذَا فَاَلْقِهْ اِلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَانْظُرْ مَاذَا يَرْجِعُونَ

    Ithhab bikitabee hathafaalqih ilayhim thumma tawalla AAanhum fanthurmatha yarjiAAoon

    Take this letter of mine and deliver it to them and then withdraw from them a little and see how they respond. ’

  • 29.

    قَالَتْ يَٓا اَيُّهَا الْمَلَؤُ۬ا اِنّ۪ٓي اُلْقِيَ اِلَيَّ كِتَابٌ كَر۪يمٌ

    Qalat ya ayyuha almalaoinnee olqiya ilayya kitabun kareem

    She said, ‘Council! a noble letter has been delivered to me.

  • 30.

    اِنَّهُ مِنْ سُلَيْمٰنَ وَاِنَّهُ بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِۙ

    Innahu min sulaymana wa-innahu bismiAllahi arrahmani arraheem

    It is from Sulayman and says: "In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful.

  • 31.

    اَلَّا تَعْلُوا عَلَيَّ وَأْتُون۪ي مُسْلِم۪ينَ۟

    Alla taAAloo AAalayya wa/tooneemuslimeen

    Do not rise up against me, but come to me in submission. "’

  • 32.

    قَالَتْ يَٓا اَيُّهَا الْمَلَؤُ۬ا اَفْتُون۪ي ف۪ٓي اَمْر۪يۚ مَا كُنْتُ قَاطِعَةً اَمْراً حَتّٰى تَشْهَدُونِ

    Qalat ya ayyuha almalaoaftoonee fee amree ma kuntu qatiAAatan amran hattatashhadoon

    She said, ‘Council! give me your opinion about this matter. It is not my habit to make a final decision until I have heard what you have to say.’

  • 33.

    قَالُوا نَحْنُ اُو۬لُوا قُوَّةٍ وَاُو۬لُوا بَأْسٍ شَد۪يدٍ وَالْاَمْرُ اِلَيْكِ فَانْظُر۪ي مَاذَا تَأْمُر۪ينَ

    Qaloo nahnu oloo quwwatinwaoloo ba/sin shadeedin wal-amru ilayki fanthureematha ta/mureen

    They said, ‘We possess strength and we possess great force. But the matter is in your hands so consider what you command.’

  • 34.

    قَالَتْ اِنَّ الْمُلُوكَ اِذَا دَخَلُوا قَرْيَةً اَفْسَدُوهَا وَجَعَلُٓوا اَعِزَّةَ اَهْلِهَٓا اَذِلَّةًۚ وَكَذٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ

    Qalat inna almulooka ithadakhaloo qaryatan afsadooha wajaAAaloo aAAizzata ahlihaathillatan wakathalika yafAAaloon

    She said, ‘When kings enter a city, they lay waste to it and make its mightiest inhabitants the most abased. That is what they too will do.

  • 35.

    وَاِنّ۪ي مُرْسِلَةٌ اِلَيْهِمْ بِهَدِيَّةٍ فَنَاظِرَةٌ بِمَ يَرْجِعُ الْمُرْسَلُونَ

    Wa-innee mursilatun ilayhim bihadiyyatin fanathiratunbima yarjiAAu almursaloon

    I will send them a gift and then wait and see what the messengers bring back. ’

  • 36.

    فَلَمَّا جَٓاءَ سُلَيْمٰنَ قَالَ اَتُمِدُّونَنِ بِمَالٍۘ فَمَٓا اٰتٰينِ‌يَ اللّٰهُ خَيْرٌ مِمَّٓا اٰتٰيكُمْۚ بَلْ اَنْتُمْ بِهَدِيَّتِكُمْ تَفْرَحُونَ

    Falamma jaa sulaymana qalaatumiddoonani bimalin fama ataniyaAllahu khayrun mimma atakum bal antumbihadiyyatikum tafrahoon

    When it reached Sulayman he said, ‘Would you give me wealth when what Allah has given me is better than what He has given you? No, rather it is you who delight in your gift.

  • 37.

    اِرْجِعْ اِلَيْهِمْ فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّهُمْ بِجُنُودٍ لَا قِبَلَ لَهُمْ بِهَا وَلَنُخْرِجَنَّهُمْ مِنْهَٓا اَذِلَّةً وَهُمْ صَاغِرُونَ

    IrjiAA ilayhim falana/tiyannahum bijunoodinla qibala lahum biha walanukhrijannahum minhaathillatan wahum saghiroon

    Return to them. We will come to them with troops they cannot face and we will expel them from it abased and humiliated.’

  • 38.

    قَالَ يَٓا اَيُّهَا الْمَلَؤُ۬ا اَيُّكُمْ يَأْت۪ين۪ي بِعَرْشِهَا قَبْلَ اَنْ يَأْتُون۪ي مُسْلِم۪ينَ

    Qala ya ayyuha almalaoayyukum ya/teenee biAAarshiha qabla an ya/toonee muslimeen

    He said, ‘Council! who among you will bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?’

  • 39.

    قَالَ عِفْر۪يتٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ اَنَا۬ اٰت۪يكَ بِه۪ قَبْلَ اَنْ تَقُومَ مِنْ مَقَامِكَۚ وَاِنّ۪ي عَلَيْهِ لَقَوِيٌّ اَم۪ينٌ

    Qala AAifreetun mina aljinni anaateeka bihi qabla an taqooma min maqamika wa-inneAAalayhi laqawiyyun ameen

    An ifreet of the jinn said, ‘I will bring it to you before you get up from your seat. I am strong and trustworthy enough to do it.’

  • 40.

    قَالَ الَّذ۪ي عِنْدَهُ عِلْمٌ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ اَنَا۬ اٰت۪يكَ بِه۪ قَبْلَ اَنْ يَرْتَدَّ اِلَيْكَ طَرْفُكَۜ فَلَمَّا رَاٰهُ مُسْتَقِراًّ عِنْدَهُ قَالَ هٰذَا مِنْ فَضْلِ رَبّ۪ي۠ لِيَبْلُوَن۪ٓي ءَاَشْكُرُ اَمْ اَكْفُرُۜ وَمَنْ شَكَرَ فَاِنَّمَا يَشْكُرُ لِنَفْسِه۪ۚ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَاِنَّ رَبّ۪ي غَنِيٌّ كَر۪يمٌ

    Qala allathee AAindahu AAilmunmina alkitabi ana ateeka bihi qabla anyartadda ilayka tarfuka falamma raahumustaqirran AAindahu qala hatha min fadlirabbee liyabluwanee aashkuru am akfuru waman shakara fa-innamayashkuru linafsihi waman kafara fa-inna rabbee ghaniyyun kareem

    He who possessed knowledge of the Book said, ‘I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you. ’ And when he saw it standing firmly in his presence, he said, ‘This is part of my Lord's favour to test me to see if I will give thanks or show ingratitude. Whoever gives thanks only does so to his own gain. Whoever is ungrateful, my Lord is Rich Beyond Need, Generous.’

  • 41.

    قَالَ نَكِّرُوا لَهَا عَرْشَهَا نَنْظُرْ اَتَهْتَد۪ٓي اَمْ تَكُونُ مِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ لَا يَهْتَدُونَ

    Qala nakkiroo laha AAarshahananthur atahtadee am takoonu mina allatheenala yahtadoon

    He said, ‘Disguise her throne. We shall see whether she is guided or someone who is not guided.’

  • 42.

    فَلَمَّا جَٓاءَتْ ق۪يلَ اَهٰكَذَا عَرْشُكِۜ قَالَتْ كَاَنَّهُ هُوَۚ وَاُو۫ت۪ينَا الْعِلْمَ مِنْ قَبْلِهَا وَكُنَّا مُسْلِم۪ينَ

    Falamma jaat qeela ahakathaAAarshuki qalat kaannahu huwa waooteena alAAilmamin qabliha wakunna muslimeen

    Then when she came, she was asked, ‘Is your throne like this?’ She said, ‘It is exactly like it. ’ ‘We were given knowledge before her and were already Muslims,

  • 43.

    وَصَدَّهَا مَا كَانَتْ تَعْبُدُ مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِۜ اِنَّهَا كَانَتْ مِنْ قَوْمٍ كَافِر۪ينَ

    Wasaddaha ma kanattaAAbudu min dooni Allahi innaha kanat minqawmin kafireen

    but what she worshipped besides Allah impeded her. She was from an unbelieving people.’

  • 44.

    ق۪يلَ لَهَا ادْخُلِي الصَّرْحَۚ فَلَمَّا رَاَتْهُ حَسِبَتْهُ لُجَّةً وَكَشَفَتْ عَنْ سَاقَيْهَاۜ قَالَ اِنَّهُ صَرْحٌ مُمَرَّدٌ مِنْ قَوَار۪يرَۜ قَالَتْ رَبِّ اِنّ۪ي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْس۪ي وَاَسْلَمْتُ مَعَ سُلَيْمٰنَ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَم۪ينَ۟

    Qeela laha odkhulee assarhafalamma raat-hu hasibat-hu lujjatan wakashafat AAansaqayha qala innahu sarhunmumarradun min qawareera qalat rabbi innee thalamtunafsee waaslamtu maAAa sulaymana lillahi rabbi alAAalameen

    She was told: ‘Enter the courtyard, ’ but when she saw it she supposed it to be a pool and bared her legs. He said, ‘It is a courtyard paved with glass.’ She said, ‘My Lord, I have wronged myself but I have submitted with Sulayman to the Lord of all the worlds.’

  • 45.

    وَلَقَدْ اَرْسَلْـنَٓا اِلٰى ثَمُودَ اَخَـاهُمْ صَـالِحاً اَنِ اعْبُـدُوا اللّٰهَ فَاِذَا هُمْ فَر۪يقَانِ يَخْتَصِمُونَ

    Walaqad arsalna ila thamoodaakhahum salihan ani oAAbudoo Allahafa-itha hum fareeqani yakhtasimoon

    To Thamud We sent their brother Salih telling them to worship Allah, and straightaway they divided in two, arguing with one another.

  • 46.

    قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لِمَ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ الْحَسَنَةِۚ لَوْلَا تَسْتَغْفِرُونَ اللّٰهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

    Qala ya qawmi limatastaAAjiloona bissayyi-ati qabla alhasanati lawlatastaghfiroona Allaha laAAallakum turhamoon

    He said, ‘My people, why are you so anxious to hasten the bad before the good? If only you would ask for forgiveness from Allah, so that mercy might perhaps be shown to you. ’

  • 47.

    قَالُوا اطَّيَّرْنَا بِكَ وَبِمَنْ مَعَكَۜ قَالَ طَٓائِرُكُمْ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ بَلْ اَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ تُفْتَنُونَ

    Qaloo ittayyarna bikawabiman maAAaka qala ta-irukum AAinda Allahibal antum qawmun tuftanoon

    They said, ‘We see you, and those with you, as an evil omen. ’ He said, ‘No, your evil omen is with Allah; you are merely a people undergoing a trial.’

  • 48.

    وَكَانَ فِي الْمَد۪ينَةِ تِسْعَةُ رَهْطٍ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْاَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ

    Wakana fee almadeenati tisAAatu rahtinyufsidoona fee al-ardi wala yuslihoon

    There was a group of nine men in the city causing corruption in the land and not putting things right.

  • 49.

    قَالُوا تَقَاسَمُوا بِاللّٰهِ لَنُبَيِّتَنَّهُ وَاَهْلَهُ ثُمَّ لَنَقُولَنَّ لِوَلِيِّه۪ مَا شَهِدْنَا مَهْلِكَ اَهْلِه۪ وَاِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ

    Qaloo taqasamoo billahilanubayyitannahu waahlahu thumma lanaqoolanna liwaliyyihi mashahidna mahlika ahlihi wa-inna lasadiqoon

    They said, ‘Let us make an oath to one another by Allah that we will fall on him and his family in the night and then say to his protector, "We did not witness the destruction of his family and we are telling the truth. "’

  • 50.

    وَمَكَرُوا مَكْراً وَمَكَرْنَا مَكْراً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

    Wamakaroo makran wamakarna makranwahum la yashAAuroon

    They hatched a plot and We hatched a plot while they were not aware.

  • 51.

    فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ مَكْرِهِمْۙ اَنَّا دَمَّرْنَاهُمْ وَقَوْمَهُمْ اَجْمَع۪ينَ

    Fanthur kayfa kanaAAaqibatu makrihim anna dammarnahumwaqawmahum ajmaAAeen

    So look at the end result of all their plotting; We utterly destroyed them and their whole people!

  • 52.

    فَتِلْكَ بُيُوتُهُمْ خَاوِيَةً بِمَا ظَلَمُواۜ اِنَّ ف۪ي ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيَةً لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ

    Fatilka buyootuhum khawiyatan bimathalamoo inna fee thalika laayatanliqawmin yaAAlamoon

    These are the ruins of their houses because of the wrong they did. There is certainly a Sign in that for people with knowledge.

  • 53.

    وَاَنْجَيْنَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا وَكَانُوا يَتَّقُونَ

    Waanjayna allatheena amanoowakanoo yattaqoon

    We rescued those who had iman and who had taqwa.

  • 54.

    وَلُوطاً اِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِه۪ٓ اَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ وَاَنْتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ

    Walootan ith qalaliqawmihi ata/toona alfahishata waantum tubsiroon

    And when Lut said to his people: ‘Do you approach depravity with open eyes?

  • 55.

    اَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ شَهْوَةً مِنْ دُونِ النِّسَٓاءِۜ بَلْ اَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ

    A-innakum lata/toona arrijalashahwatan min dooni annisa-i bal antum qawmuntajhaloon

    Do you come with lust to men instead of women? You are a people who are deeply ignorant. ’

  • 56.

    فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِه۪ٓ اِلَّٓا اَنْ قَالُٓوا اَخْرِجُٓوا اٰلَ لُوطٍ مِنْ قَرْيَتِكُمْۚ اِنَّهُمْ اُنَاسٌ يَتَطَهَّرُونَ

    Fama kana jawabaqawmihi illa an qaloo akhrijoo ala lootinmin qaryatikum innahum onasun yatatahharoon

    the only response of his people was to say: ‘Drive the family of Lut out of your city! They are people who keep themselves pure!’

  • 57.

    فَاَنْجَيْنَاهُ وَاَهْلَـهُٓ اِلَّا امْرَاَتَهُۘ قَدَّرْنَاهَا مِنَ الْغَابِر۪ينَ

    Faanjaynahu waahlahu illaimraatahu qaddarnaha mina alghabireen

    So We rescued him and his family – except for his wife. We ordained her to be one of those who stayed behind.

  • 58.

    وَاَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ مَطَراًۚ فَسَٓاءَ مَطَرُ الْمُنْذَر۪ينَ۟

    Waamtarna AAalayhim mataranfasaa mataru almunthareen

    We rained down a rain upon them. How evil is the rain of those who are warned!

  • 59.

    قُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ وَسَلَامٌ عَلٰى عِبَادِهِ الَّذ۪ينَ اصْطَفٰىۜ آٰللّٰهُ خَيْرٌ اَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَۜ

    Quli alhamdu lillahi wasalamunAAala AAibadihi allatheena istafaallahu khayrun amma yushrikoon

    Say: ‘Praise be to Allah and peace be upon His slaves whom He has chosen. ’ Is Allah better, or what you associate with Him?

  • 60.

    اَمَّنْ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَ وَاَنْزَلَ لَكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ مَٓاءًۚ فَاَنْبَتْنَا بِه۪ حَدَٓائِقَ ذَاتَ بَهْجَةٍۚ مَا كَانَ لَكُمْ اَنْ تُنْبِتُوا شَجَرَهَاۜ ءَاِلٰهٌ مَعَ اللّٰهِۜ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ يَعْدِلُونَۜ

    Amman khalaqa assamawatiwal-arda waanzala lakum mina assama-imaan faanbatna bihi hada-iqa thatabahjatin ma kana lakum an tunbitoo shajarahaa-ilahun maAAa Allahi bal hum qawmun yaAAdiloon

    He Who created the heavens and the earth and sends down water for you from the sky by which We make luxuriant gardens grow – you could never make their trees grow. Is there another god besides Allah? No indeed, but they are people who equate others with Him!

  • 61.

    اَمَّنْ جَعَلَ الْاَرْضَ قَرَاراً وَجَعَلَ خِلَالَـهَٓا اَنْهَاراً وَجَعَلَ لَهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ حَاجِزاًۜ ءَاِلٰهٌ مَعَ اللّٰهِۜ بَلْ اَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَۜ

    Amman jaAAala al-arda qararanwajaAAala khilalaha anharan wajaAAala laharawasiya wajaAAala bayna albahrayni hajizana-ilahun maAAa Allahi bal aktharuhum layaAAlamoon

    He Who made the earth a stable dwelling place and appointed rivers flowing through its midst and placed firmly embedded mountains on it and set a barrier between the two seas. Is there another god besides Allah? No indeed, but most of them do not know it!

  • 62.

    اَمَّنْ يُج۪يبُ الْمُضْطَرَّ اِذَا دَعَاهُ وَيَكْشِفُ السُّٓوءَ وَيَجْعَلُكُمْ خُلَـفَٓاءَ الْاَرْضِۜ ءَاِلٰهٌ مَعَ اللّٰهِۜ قَل۪يلاً مَا تَذَكَّرُونَۜ

    Amman yujeebu almudtarra ithadaAAahu wayakshifu assoo-a wayajAAalukum khulafaaal-ardi a-ilahun maAAa Allahi qaleelan matathakkaroon

    He Who responds to the oppressed when they call on Him and removes their distress, and has appointed you as khalifs on the earth. Is there another god besides Allah? How little you pay heed!

  • 63.

    اَمَّنْ يَهْد۪يكُمْ ف۪ي ظُلُمَاتِ الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ وَمَنْ يُرْسِلُ الرِّيَاحَ بُشْراً بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَحْمَتِه۪ۜ ءَاِلٰهٌ مَعَ اللّٰهِۜ تَعَالَى اللّٰهُ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَۜ

    Amman yahdeekum fee thulumatialbarri walbahri waman yursilu arriyahabushran bayna yaday rahmatihi a-ilahun maAAa AllahitaAAala Allahu AAamma yushrikoon

    He Who guides you in the darkness of land and sea and sends out the winds bringing advance news of His mercy. Is there another god besides Allah? May Allah be exalted above what they associate with Him!

  • 64.

    اَمَّنْ يَبْدَؤُا الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُع۪يدُهُ وَمَنْ يَرْزُقُكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ وَالْاَرْضِۜ ءَاِلٰهٌ مَعَ اللّٰهِۜ قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِق۪ينَ

    Amman yabdao alkhalqa thumma yuAAeeduhuwaman yarzuqukum mina assama-i wal-ardia-ilahun maAAa Allahi qul hatoo burhanakumin kuntum sadiqeen

    He Who originates creation and then regenerates it and provides for you from out of heaven and earth. Is there another god besides Allah? Say: ‘Bring your proof if you are being truthful.’

  • 65.

    قُلْ لَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ فِي السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ الْغَيْبَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُۜ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ اَيَّانَ يُبْعَثُونَ

    Qul la yaAAlamu man fee assamawatiwal-ardi alghayba illa Allahu wamayashAAuroona ayyana yubAAathoon

    Say: ‘No one in the heavens and the earth knows the Unseen except Allah. ’ They are not aware of when they will be raised.

  • 66.

    بَلِ ادَّارَكَ عِلْمُهُمْ فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ۠ بَلْ هُمْ ف۪ي شَكٍّ مِنْهَا۠ بَلْ هُمْ مِنْهَا عَمُونَ۟

    Bali iddaraka AAilmuhum fee al-akhiratibal hum fee shakkin minha bal hum minha AAamoon

    No, their knowledge stops short of the Next World. In fact they have doubts about it. In fact they are blind to it.

  • 67.

    وَقَالَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُٓوا ءَاِذَا كُنَّا تُرَاباً وَاٰبَٓاؤُ۬نَٓا اَئِنَّا لَمُخْرَجُونَ

    Waqala allatheena kafaroo a-ithakunna turaban waabaona a-innalamukhrajoon

    Those who are kafir say, ‘When we and our fathers are turned to dust will we then be brought forth again?

  • 68.

    لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا هٰذَا نَحْنُ وَاٰبَٓاؤُ۬نَا مِنْ قَبْلُۙ اِنْ هٰذَٓا اِلَّٓا اَسَاط۪يرُ الْاَوَّل۪ينَ

    Laqad wuAAidna hatha nahnuwaabaona min qablu in hatha illaasateeru al-awwaleen

    We have been promised this before, we and our fathers. This is nothing but myths and legends of previous peoples.’

  • 69.

    قُلْ س۪يرُوا فِي الْاَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُجْرِم۪ينَ

    Qul seeroo fee al-ardi fanthurookayfa kana AAaqibatu almujrimeen

    Say: ‘Travel about the earth and see the final fate of the evildoers. ’

  • 70.

    وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا تَكُنْ ف۪ي ضَيْقٍ مِمَّا يَمْكُرُونَ

    Wala tahzan AAalayhim walatakun fee dayqin mimma yamkuroon

    Do not grieve over them and do not let the plots they make distress you.

  • 71.

    وَيَقُولُونَ مَتٰى هٰذَا الْوَعْدُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِق۪ينَ

    Wayaqooloona mata hathaalwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeen

    They say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled if you are telling the truth?’

  • 72.

    قُلْ عَسٰٓى اَنْ يَكُونَ رَدِفَ لَكُمْ بَعْضُ الَّذ۪ي تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

    Qul AAasa an yakoona radifa lakumbaAAdu allathee tastaAAjiloon

    Say: ‘It may well be that some of what you are anxious to hasten is right on your heels. ’

  • 73.

    وَاِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ

    Wa-inna rabbaka lathoo fadlinAAala annasi walakinna aktharahum layashkuroon

    Allah shows favour to mankind but most of them are not thankful.

  • 74.

    وَاِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَيَعْلَمُ مَا تُكِنُّ صُدُورُهُمْ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ

    Wa-inna rabbaka layaAAlamu ma tukinnusudooruhum wama yuAAlinoon

    Certainly your Lord knows what their hearts keep hidden and what they divulge.

  • 75.

    وَمَا مِنْ غَٓائِبَةٍ فِي السَّمَٓاءِ وَالْاَرْضِ اِلَّا ف۪ي كِتَابٍ مُب۪ينٍ

    Wama min gha-ibatin fee assama-iwal-ardi illa fee kitabin mubeen

    Certainly there is no hidden thing in either heaven or earth which is not in a Clear Book.

  • 76.

    اِنَّ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَ يَقُصُّ عَلٰى بَن۪ٓي اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ اَكْثَرَ الَّذ۪ي هُمْ ف۪يهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ

    Inna hatha alqur-ana yaqussuAAala banee isra-eela akthara allathee humfeehi yakhtalifoon

    Certainly this Qur’an narrates to the tribe of Israel most of the things about which they differ.

  • 77.

    وَاِنَّهُ لَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ

    Wa-innahu lahudan warahmatunlilmu/mineen

    Certainly it is guidance and a mercy for the muminun.

  • 78.

    اِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَقْض۪ي بَيْنَهُمْ بِحُكْمِه۪ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَز۪يزُ الْعَل۪يمُۚ

    Inna rabbaka yaqdee baynahum bihukmihiwahuwa alAAazeezu alAAaleem

    Certainly your Lord will decide between them with His just judgement. He is the Almighty, the All-Knowing.

  • 79.

    فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللّٰهِۜ اِنَّكَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ الْمُب۪ينِ

    Fatawakkal AAala Allahi innakaAAala alhaqqi almubeen

    So put your trust in Allah. You are clearly on a path of truth.

  • 80.

    اِنَّكَ لَا تُسْمِــعُ الْمَوْتٰى وَلَا تُسْمِــعُ الصُّمَّ الدُّعَٓاءَ اِذَا وَلَّوْا مُدْبِر۪ينَ

    Innaka la tusmiAAu almawta walatusmiAAu assumma adduAAaa ithawallaw mudbireen

    You will not make dead men hear and you will not make deaf men hear the call when they turn their backs in flight.

  • 81.

    وَمَٓا اَنْتَ بِهَادِي الْعُمْيِ عَنْ ضَلَالَتِهِمْۜ اِنْ تُسْمِــعُ اِلَّا مَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاٰيَاتِنَا فَهُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ

    Wama anta bihadee alAAumyiAAan dalalatihim in tusmiAAu illa manyu/minu bi-ayatina fahum muslimoon

    You will not guide blind men out of their error. You will not make anyone hear except for those who have iman in Our Signs and so are Muslims.

  • 82.

    وَاِذَا وَقَعَ الْقَوْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ اَخْرَجْنَا لَهُمْ دَٓابَّةً مِنَ الْاَرْضِ تُكَلِّمُهُمْۙ اَنَّ النَّاسَ كَانُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَا لَا يُوقِنُونَ۟

    Wa-itha waqaAAa alqawlu AAalayhimakhrajna lahum dabbatan mina al-arditukallimuhum anna annasa kanoo bi-ayatinala yooqinoon

    When the Word is justly carried out against them, We will produce a Beast from the earth which will speak to them. Truly mankind had no certainty about Our Signs.

  • 83.

    وَيَوْمَ نَحْشُرُ مِنْ كُلِّ اُمَّةٍ فَوْجاً مِمَّنْ يُكَذِّبُ بِاٰيَاتِنَا فَهُمْ يُوزَعُونَ

    Wayawma nahshuru min kulli ommatinfawjan mimman yukaththibu bi-ayatinafahum yoozaAAoon

    On that Day We will collect from every community a crowd of those who denied Our Signs, paraded in tight ranks.

  • 84.

    حَتّٰٓى اِذَا جَٓاؤُ۫ قَالَ اَكَذَّبْتُمْ بِاٰيَات۪ي وَلَمْ تُح۪يطُوا بِهَا عِلْماً اَمَّاذَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

    Hatta itha jaooqala akaththabtum bi-ayatee walam tuheetoobiha AAilman ammatha kuntum taAAmaloon

    Then when they arrive He will say, ‘Did you deny My Signs even though you did not have proper knowledge of them. What were you doing?’

  • 85.

    وَوَقَعَ الْقَوْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِمَا ظَلَمُوا فَهُمْ لَا يَنْطِقُونَ

    WawaqaAAa alqawlu AAalayhim bima thalamoofahum la yantiqoon

    The Word will be carried out against them for the wrong they did and they will not speak.

  • 86.

    اَلَمْ يَرَوْا اَنَّا جَعَلْنَا الَّيْلَ لِيَسْكُنُوا ف۪يهِ وَالنَّهَارَ مُبْصِراًۜ اِنَّ ف۪ي ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ

    Alam yaraw anna jaAAalnaallayla liyaskunoo feehi wannahara mubsiraninna fee thalika laayatin liqawmin yu/minoon

    Do they not see that We have made the night for them to rest in and the day for seeing? There are certainly Signs in that for people who have iman.

  • 87.

    وَيَوْمَ يُنْفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَفَزِ عَ مَنْ فِي السَّمٰوَاتِ وَمَنْ فِي الْاَرْضِ اِلَّا مَنْ شَٓاءَ اللّٰهُۜ وَكُلٌّ اَتَوْهُ دَاخِر۪ينَ

    Wayawma yunfakhu fee assoorifafaziAAa man fee assamawati waman feeal-ardi illa man shaa Allahu wakullunatawhu dakhireen

    On the Day the Trumpet is blown and everyone in the heavens and everyone on the earth is terrified – except those Allah wills, everyone will come to Him abject.

  • 88.

    وَتَرَى الْجِبَالَ تَحْسَبُهَا جَامِدَةً وَهِيَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحَابِۜ صُنْعَ اللّٰهِ الَّـذ۪ٓي اَتْقَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍۜ اِنَّهُ خَب۪يرٌ بِمَا تَفْعَلُونَ

    Watara aljibala tahsabuhajamidatan wahiya tamurru marra assahabi sunAAaAllahi allathee atqana kulla shay-in innahukhabeerun bima tafAAaloon

    You will see the mountains you reckoned to be solid going past like clouds – the handiwork of Allah who gives to everything its solidity. He is aware of what you do.

  • 89.

    مَنْ جَٓاءَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ خَيْرٌ مِنْهَاۚ وَهُمْ مِنْ فَزَعٍ يَوْمَئِذٍ اٰمِنُونَ

    Man jaa bilhasanatifalahu khayrun minha wahum min fazaAAin yawma-ithinaminoon

    Those who perform good actions will receive better than them and will be safe that Day from terror.

  • 90.

    وَمَنْ جَٓاءَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ فَكُبَّتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ فِي النَّارِۜ هَلْ تُجْزَوْنَ اِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

    Waman jaa bissayyi-atifakubbat wujoohuhum fee annari hal tujzawna illama kuntum taAAmaloon

    Those who perform bad actions will be flung head first into the Fire: ‘Are you being repaid for anything other than what you did?’

  • 91.

    اِنَّـمَٓا اُمِرْتُ اَنْ اَعْبُدَ رَبَّ هٰذِهِ الْبَلْدَةِ الَّذ۪ي حَرَّمَهَا وَلَهُ كُلُّ شَيْءٍۘ وَاُمِرْتُ اَنْ اَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِم۪ينَۙ

    Innama omirtu an aAAbuda rabba hathihialbaldati allathee harramaha walahu kullushay-in waomirtu an akoona mina almuslimeen

    ‘I have simply been ordered to worship the Lord of this land which He has declared sacred – everything belongs to Him – and I have been ordered to be one of the Muslims

  • 92.

    وَاَنْ اَتْلُوَا الْقُرْاٰنَۚ فَمَنِ اهْتَدٰى فَاِنَّمَا يَهْتَد۪ي لِنَفْسِه۪ۚ وَمَنْ ضَلَّ فَقُلْ اِنَّـمَٓا اَنَا۬ مِنَ الْمُنْذِر۪ينَ

    Waan atluwa alqur-ana famani ihtadafa-innama yahtadee linafsihi waman dalla faqulinnama ana mina almunthireen

    and to recite the Qur’an. ’ Whoever is guided is only guided to his own good; if someone is misguided just say, ‘I am only a warner.’

  • 93.

    وَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ سَيُر۪يكُمْ اٰيَاتِه۪ فَتَعْرِفُونَهَاۜ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

    Waquli alhamdu lillahisayureekum ayatihi fataAArifoonaha wamarabbuka bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloon

    Say: ‘Praise be to Allah. He will show you His Signs and you will recognise them. Your Lord is not unaware of what you do.’
