  • 10.

WajaAAala feeha rawasiya minfawqiha wabaraka feeha waqaddara feehaaqwataha fee arbaAAati ayyamin sawaanlissa-ileen

  • 11.

If they turn away, then say, ‘I warn you of a lightning-bolt like the lightning-bolt of ‘Ad and of Thamud. ’

  • 14.

Ith jaat-humu arrusulumin bayni aydeehim wamin khalfihim alla taAAbudoo illaAllaha qaloo law shaa rabbunalaanzala mala-ikatan fa-inna bima orsiltumbihi kafiroon

When the Messengers came to them from in front and from behind, saying, ‘Do not worship anyone but Allah. ’ they said, ‘If our Lord had willed, He could have sent angels down, so we reject the Message you have been sent with.’

  • 15.

Faamma AAadun fastakbaroofee al-ardi bighayri alhaqqi waqaloo manashaddu minna quwwatan awa lam yaraw anna Allahaallathee khalaqahum huwa ashaddu minhum quwwatan wakanoobi-ayatina yajhadoon

‘Ad were arrogant in the land, without any right, saying, ‘Who has greater strength than us?’ Did they not see that Allah, who created them, had greater strength than them? But they renounced Our Signs.

  • 16.

Faarsalna AAalayhim reehan sarsaranfee ayyamin nahisatin linutheeqahumAAathaba alkhizyi fee alhayati addunyawalaAAathabu al-akhirati akhza wahum layunsaroon

So We sent a howling wind against them on disastrous ill-fated days to make them taste the punishment of degradation in this world. And the punishment of the Next World is even more degrading. And they will not be helped.

  • 17.

Waamma thamoodu fahadaynahumfastahabboo alAAama AAala alhudafaakhathat-hum saAAiqatu alAAathabi alhoonibima kanoo yaksiboon

As for Thamud, We guided them, but they preferred blindness to guidance. So the lightning-bolt of the punishment of humiliation seized them on account of what they earned.

  • 18.

On the Day We crowd the enemies of Allah into the Fire and they are driven in close-packed ranks,

  • 20.

Hatta itha ma jaoohashahida AAalayhim samAAuhum waabsaruhum wajulooduhum bimakanoo yaAAmaloon

when they reach it, their hearing, sight and skin will testify against them concerning what they did.

  • 21.

Waqaloo lijuloodihim lima shahidtumAAalayna qaloo antaqana Allahuallathee antaqa kulla shay-in wahuwa khalaqakumawwala marratin wa-ilayhi turjaAAoon

They will ask their skins, ‘Why did you testify against us?’ and they will reply, ‘Allah gave us speech as He has given speech to everything. He created you in the first place and you will be returned to Him.

  • 22.

Wama kuntum tastatiroona an yashhadaAAalaykum samAAukum wala absarukum walajuloodukum walakin thanantum anna Allahala yaAAlamu katheeran mimma taAAmaloon

You did not think to shield yourselves from your hearing, sight and skin testifying against you and you thought that Allah would never know much of what you did.

  • 23.

Wathalikum thannukumuallathee thanantum birabbikum ardakumfaasbahtum mina alkhasireen

It is that thought you had about your Lord that has destroyed you so now you find yourselves among the lost. ’

  • 24.

Fa-in yasbiroo fannarumathwan lahum wa-in yastaAAtiboo fama hum minaalmuAAtabeen

If they are steadfast, the Fire will still be their residence! If they ask for favour, no favour will be given.

  • 25.

Waqayyadna lahum quranaafazayyanoo lahum ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahumwahaqqa AAalayhimu alqawlu fee omamin qad khalat minqablihim mina aljinni wal-insi innahum kanoo khasireen

We have assigned close comrades to them who have made what is before them and behind them seem good to them. And the statement about the nations, both of jinn and men, who passed away before them has proved true of them as well. Certainly they were lost.

  • 26.

Falanutheeqanna allatheenakafaroo AAathaban shadeedan walanajziyannahum aswaa allatheekanoo yaAAmaloon

We will make those who are kafir suffer a severe punishment and repay them for the worst of what they did.

  • 28.

Thalika jazao aAAda-iAllahi annaru lahum feeha darualkhuldi jazaan bima kanoo bi-ayatinayajhadoon

That is the repayment of the enemies of Allah – the Fire. They will have it for their Eternal Home as repayment for their renunciation of Our Signs.

  • 29.

Inna allatheena qaloo rabbunaAllahu thumma istaqamoo tatanazzalu AAalayhimualmala-ikatu alla takhafoo wala tahzanoowaabshiroo biljannati allatee kuntum tooAAadoon

The angels descend on those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then go straight: ‘Do not fear and do not grieve but rejoice in the Garden you have been promised.

  • 31.

Hospitality from One who is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ’

  • 33.

Waman ahsanu qawlan mimman daAAaila Allahi waAAamila salihan waqalainnanee mina almuslimeen

Who could say anything better than someone who summons to Allah and acts rightly and says, ‘I am one of the Muslims’?

  • 34.

Wa-imma yanzaghannaka mina ashshaytaninazghun fastaAAith billahi innahuhuwa assameeAAu alAAaleem

If an evil urge from Shaytan eggs you on, seek refuge in Allah. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

  • 37.

Wamin ayatihi allaylu wannaharuwashshamsu walqamaru la tasjudoo lishshamsiwala lilqamari wasjudoo lillahi alatheekhalaqahunna in kuntum iyyahu taAAbudoon

Among His Signs are the night and day and the sun and moon. Do not prostrate to the sun nor to the moon. Prostrate to Allah who created them, if you worship Him.

  • 38.

Fa-ini istakbaroo fallatheenaAAinda rabbika yusabbihoona lahu billayli wannahariwahum la yas-amoon

  • 39.

Among His Signs is that you see the earth laid bare and then when We send down water on it it quivers and swells. He who gives it life is He who gives life to the dead. Certainly He has power over all things.

  • 40.

Those who adulterate Our Signs are not concealed from Us. Who is better – someone who will be thrown into the fire or someone who will arrive in safety on the Day of Rising? Do what you like. He sees whatever you do.

  • 41.

    اِنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا بِالذِّكْرِ لَمَّا جَٓاءَهُمْۚ وَاِنَّهُ لَكِتَابٌ عَز۪يزٌۙ

    Those who reject the Remembrance when it comes to them – truly it is a Mighty Book;

  • 42.

falsehood cannot reach it from before it or behind it – it is a revelation from One who is All-Wise, Praiseworthy.

  • 43.

If We had made it a Qur’an in a foreign tongue they would have said, ‘Why have its Signs not been made plain? What! A foreign language for an Arab?’ Say: ‘It is guidance and healing for people who have iman. Those who do not have iman have heaviness in their ears and for them it is blindness. Such people are being called from a very distant place.’

Walaqad atayna moosaalkitaba fakhtulifa feehi walawla kalimatunsabaqat min rabbika laqudiya baynahum wa-innahum lafeeshakkin minhu mureeb

We gave Musa the Book but there was disagreement about it. And had it not been for a prior Word from your Lord, the judgement between them would already have been made. They are indeed in grave doubt about it.

Man AAamila salihanfalinafsihi waman asaa faAAalayha wamarabbuka bithallamin lilAAabeed

Whoever acts rightly, it is to his own good. Whoever does evil, it is to his detriment. Your Lord does not wrong His slaves.

Ilayhi yuraddu AAilmu assaAAatiwama takhruju min thamaratin min akmamihawama tahmilu min ontha wala tadaAAuilla biAAilmihi wayawma yunadeehim ayna shuraka-eeqaloo athannaka ma minna minshaheed

Knowledge of the Hour is referred to Him. And no fruit emerges from its husk, nor does any female get pregnant or give birth, without His knowledge. On the Day He calls out to them: ‘Where are My associates?’ they will say, ‘We declare to you that none of us is a witness.’

Wadalla AAanhum ma kanooyadAAoona min qablu wathannoo ma lahum minmahees

What they called upon before will have forsaken them and they will realise they have no way of escape.

La yas-amu al-insanu min duAAa-ialkhayri wa-in massahu ashsharru fayaoosun qanoot

Man never tires of praying for the good and if evil touches him, he despairs and loses hope.

Wala-in athaqnahu rahmatanminna min baAAdi darraa massat-hulayaqoolanna hatha lee wama athunnu assaAAataqa-imatan wala-in rujiAAtu ila rabbee inna leeAAindahu lalhusna falanunabbi-anna allatheenakafaroo bima AAamiloo walanutheeqannahum min AAathabinghaleeth

But if We let him taste mercy from Us after he has suffered hardship, then he says, ‘This is my due. I do not think that the Hour is going to come. And if am returned to my Lord, I will definitely find the best reward with Him.’ But We will inform those who are kafir of what they did and make them suffer a ruthless punishment.

Wa-itha anAAamna AAalaal-insani aAArada wanaa bijanibihiwa-itha massahu ashsharru fathoo duAAa-inAAareed

When We grant blessing to a man, he turns away and draws aside but when any evil touches him, he is full of endless prayers!

Qul araaytum in kana min AAindi Allahithumma kafartum bihi man adallu mimman huwa fee shiqaqinbaAAeed

Say: ‘What do you think? If it is from Allah and you reject it, who could be more misguided than someone entrenched in hostility to it?’

Sanureehim ayatina feeal-afaqi wafee anfusihim hattayatabayyana lahum annahu alhaqqu awa lam yakfi birabbikaannahu AAala kulli shay-in shaheed

We will show them Our Signs on the horizon and within themselves until it is clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not enough for your Lord that He is a witness of everything?

  • 54.

Ala innahum fee miryatin min liqa-irabbihim ala innahu bikulli shay-in muheet

What! Are they in doubt about the meeting with their Lord? What! Does He not encompass all things?
