63. Surah Al-Munafiqun The Hypocrites

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful

اِذَا جَٓاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ قَالُوا نَشْهَدُ اِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ اللّٰهِۢ وَاللّٰهُ يَعْلَمُ اِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُۜ وَاللّٰهُ يَشْهَدُ اِنَّ الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ لَـكَاذِبُونَۚ

Itha jaaka almunafiqoonaqaloo nashhadu innaka larasoolu Allahi wallahuyaAAlamu innaka larasooluhu wallahu yashhadu innaalmunafiqeena lakathiboon

When the hypocrites come to you they say, ‘We bear witness that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah. ’ Allah knows that you are indeed His Messenger and Allah bears witness that the hypocrites are certainly liars.

اِتَّخَذُٓوا اَيْمَانَهُمْ جُنَّةً فَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِۜ اِنَّهُمْ سَٓاءَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

Ittakhathoo aymanahum junnatanfasaddoo AAan sabeeli Allahi innahum saa makanoo yaAAmaloon

They have made their oaths into a cloak and barred the Way of Allah. What they have done is truly evil.

ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمْ اٰمَنُوا ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا فَطُبِعَ عَلٰى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ

Thalika bi-annahum amanoothumma kafaroo fatubiAAa AAala quloobihim fahum layafqahoon

That is because they have had iman and then returned to kufr. So their hearts have been sealed up and they cannot understand.

وَاِذَا رَاَيْتَهُمْ تُعْجِبُكَ اَجْسَامُهُمْۜ وَاِنْ يَقُولُوا تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْۜ كَاَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌ مُسَنَّدَةٌۜ يَحْسَبُونَ كُلَّ صَيْحَةٍ عَلَيْهِمْۜ هُمُ الْعَدُوُّ فَاحْذَرْهُمْۜ قَاتَلَهُمُ اللّٰهُۘ اَنّٰى يُؤْفَـكُونَ

Wa-itha raaytahum tuAAjibuka ajsamuhumwa-in yaqooloo tasmaAA liqawlihim kaannahum khushubunmusannadatun yahsaboona kulla sayhatinAAalayhim humu alAAaduwwu fahtharhum qatalahumuAllahu anna yu/fakoon

When you see them, their outward form appeals to you, and if they speak you listen to what they say. But they are like propped-up planks of wood. They imagine every cry to be against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. Allah fight them! How they are perverted!

وَاِذَا ق۪يلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا يَسْتَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ لَـوَّوْا رُؤُ۫سَهُمْ وَرَاَيْتَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ وَهُمْ مُسْتَكْبِرُونَ

Wa-itha qeela lahum taAAalawyastaghfir lakum rasoolu Allahi lawwaw ruoosahumwaraaytahum yasuddoona wahum mustakbiroon

When they are told, ‘Come, and the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you,’ they turn their heads and you see them turn away in haughty arrogance.

سَوَٓاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ اَسْتَغْفَرْتَ لَهُمْ اَمْ لَمْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْۜ لَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللّٰهُ لَهُمْۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْفَاسِق۪ينَ

Sawaon AAalayhim astaghfarta lahum amlam tastaghfir lahum lan yaghfira Allahu lahum inna Allahala yahdee alqawma alfasiqeen

In their case it makes no difference whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them. Allah will never forgive them. Allah does not guide deviant people.

هُمُ الَّذ۪ينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنْفِقُوا عَلٰى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللّٰهِ حَتّٰى يَنْفَضُّواۜ وَلِلّٰهِ خَزَٓائِنُ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَلٰكِنَّ الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ

Humu allatheena yaqooloona latunfiqoo AAala man AAinda rasooli Allahi hattayanfaddoo walillahi khaza-inu assamawatiwal-ardi walakinna almunafiqeena layafqahoon

They are the people who say, ‘Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah, so that they may go away. ’ The treasuries of the heavens and earth belong to Allah. But the hypocrites do not understand this.

يَقُولُونَ لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَٓا اِلَى الْمَد۪ينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْاَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْاَذَلَّۜ وَلِلّٰهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِه۪ وَلِلْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ وَلٰكِنَّ الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ۟

Yaqooloona la-in rajaAAna ilaalmadeenati layukhrijanna al-aAAazzu minha al-athallawalillahi alAAizzatu walirasoolihi walilmu/mineena walakinnaalmunafiqeena la yaAAlamoon

They say, ‘If we return to Madina, the mightier will drive out the inferior. ’ But all might belongs to Allah and to His Messenger and the muminun. But the hypocrites do not know this.

يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا لَا تُلْهِكُمْ اَمْوَالُكُمْ وَلَٓا اَوْلَادُكُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللّٰهِۚ وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذٰلِكَ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tulhikum amwalukum wala awladukumAAan thikri Allahi waman yafAAal thalikafaola-ika humu alkhasiroon

You who have iman! do not let your wealth or children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. Whoever does that is lost.

وَاَنْفِقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ يَأْتِيَ اَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوْلَٓا اَخَّرْتَـن۪ٓي اِلٰٓى اَجَلٍ قَر۪يبٍۙ فَاَصَّدَّقَ وَاَكُنْ مِنَ الصَّالِح۪ينَ

Waanfiqoo min ma razaqnakummin qabli an ya/tiya ahadakumu almawtu fayaqoola rabbilawla akhkhartanee ila ajalin qareebin faassaddaqawaakun mina assaliheen

Give from what We have provided for you before death comes to one of you and he says, ‘My Lord, if only you would give me a little more time so that I can give sadaqa and be one of the righteous!’

وَلَنْ يُؤَخِّرَ اللّٰهُ نَفْساً اِذَا جَٓاءَ اَجَلُهَاۜ وَاللّٰهُ خَب۪يرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Walan yu-akhkhira Allahu nafsan ithajaa ajaluha wallahu khabeerun bimataAAmaloon

Allah will not give anyone more time, once their time has come. Allah is aware of what you do.
