40. Surah Ghafir, Verse 75

That was because you used to gloat on Earth without any right, and for what you used to rejoice.

This is because in your life on the earth you used to take delight in what was not True, and roamed about haughtily with your false doctrines.

“That is because you exulted in the earth without cause, and because you were filled with haughtiness.

That was because you used to gloat on the earth without any right, and for what you used to rejoice.

That was because you used to gloat on earth without any right, and for what you used to rejoice.

‘That is because you exulted on the earth, without any right to do so; and strutted about.

This is because you used to rejoice in false doctrines on earth, and you used to promote them.

"This is so because you went about exulting wrongfully in the land, " (will they be told), "and you were insolent.

[The angels will say], "That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently.

this is an out­come of your having arrogantly exulted on earth without any [concern for what is] right, and of your having been so full of self-conceit!

(And it is said unto them): This is because ye exulted in the earth without right, and because ye were petulant.

This train of evils you people drew after yourselves is in requital of the pleasure you unjustly derived from the early religion of sensuous character and because of your insolence to make people the instrument of your evil ambition.

deserve to be left alone by God to follow the wrong path.

That was because you had been exulting in the earth without any right (by worshipping others instead of Allâh and by committing crimes), and that you used to rejoice extremely (in your error).

"That was because ye were wont to rejoice on the earth in things other than the Truth, and that ye were wont to be insolent.

˹They will be told,˺ "This ˹punishment˺ is for being prideful on earth unjustly and for acting arrogantly.

(It will be said to them,) "This is because you used to rejoice on the earth wrongfully, and because you used to show arrogance.

all because on earth you revelled in untruth and ran wild.

'That is because you rejoiced in the earth without right, and were exultant.

There! for 'that ye did rejoice in the land without right; and for that ye did exult;

(It is said, ) "That is because you exulted in the earth unjustly and because you behaved insolently. "

That is (due to the fact) that you used to exult in the earth untruthfully, (Literally: without the truth) and (due to the fact) that you used to live in merriment.

This hath befallen you, for that ye rejoiced insolently on earth, in that which was false; and for that ye were elated with immoderate joy.

(It will be said to them, ) "That was because you were used to being happy on the earth in things which were not the Truth, and that you were used to being haughty (and disrespectful).

(It will be said to them, ) `That is because you exulted in the land without any justification and because you behaved with vanity.

‘That is because you used to exult unduly on the earth and because you used to walk exultantly. ’
