32. Surah As-Sajdah The Prostration

← 31. Luqman | 33. Al-Ahzab →

    Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful

  • 1.

    Alif-lam-meem

    Alif Lam Mim.

  • 2.

Tanzeelu alkitabi la raybafeehi min rabbi alAAalameen

The revelation of the Book, without any doubt of it, is from the Lord of the worlds.

  • 3.

Am yaqooloona iftarahu bal huwa alhaqqumin rabbika litunthira qawman ma atahum minnatheerin min qablika laAAallahum yahtadoon

Or do they say, ‘He has invented it’? No indeed! It is the truth from your Lord to warn a people to whom, before you, no warner came, so that hopefully they will be guided.

  • 4.

Allahu allathee khalaqa assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma fee sittatiayyamin thumma istawa AAala alAAarshi malakum min doonihi min waliyyin wala shafeeAAin afalatatathakkaroon

Allah is He who created the heavens and the earth and everything between them in six days and then established Himself firmly upon the Throne. You have no protector or intercessor apart from Him. So will you not pay heed?

  • 5.

Yudabbiru al-amra mina assama-iila al-ardi thumma yaAAruju ilayhi fee yawmin kanamiqdaruhu alfa sanatin mimma taAAuddoon

He directs the whole affair from heaven to earth. Then it will again ascend to Him on a Day whose length is a thousand years by the way you measure.

  • 6.

    Thalika AAalimu alghaybi washshahadatialAAazeezu arraheem

That is the Knower of the Unseen and the Visible, the Almighty, the Most Merciful:

  • 7.

Allathee ahsana kulla shay-inkhalaqahu wabadaa khalqa al-insani min teen

    He who has created all things in the best possible way. He commenced the creation of man from clay;

  • 8.

Thumma jaAAala naslahu min sulalatinmin ma-in maheen

    then produced his seed from an extract of base fluid;

  • 9.

Thumma sawwahu wanafakha feehi min roohihiwajaAAala lakumu assamAAa wal-absara wal-af-idataqaleelan ma tashkuroon

then formed him and breathed His Ruh into him and gave you hearing, sight and hearts. What little thanks you show!

  • 10.

Waqaloo a-itha dalalnafee al-ardi a-inna lafee khalqin jadeedin bal humbiliqa-i rabbihim kafiroon

They say, ‘When we have been absorbed into the earth, are we then to be in a new creation?’ In fact they reject the meeting with their Lord.

  • 11.

Qul yatawaffakum malaku almawti allatheewukkila bikum thumma ila rabbikum turjaAAoon

Say: ‘The Angel of Death, who has been given charge of you, will take you back and then you will be sent back to your Lord. ’

  • 12.

Walaw tara ithi almujrimoona nakisooruoosihim AAinda rabbihim rabbana absarnawasamiAAna faarjiAAna naAAmal salihaninna mooqinoon

If only you could see the evildoers hanging their heads in shame before their Lord: ‘Our Lord, we have seen and we have heard, so send us back again and we will act rightly. Truly we now have certainty.’

  • 13.

Walaw shi-na laataynakulla nafsin hudaha walakin haqqaalqawlu minnee laamlaanna jahannama mina aljinnati wannasiajmaAAeen

‘Had We so willed We could have given guidance to everyone, but now My Words are shown to be true: that I shall fill up Hell entirely with jinn and human beings.

  • 14.

Fathooqoo bima naseetum liqaayawmikum hatha inna naseenakum wathooqooAAathaba alkhuldi bima kuntum taAAmaloon

So taste it. Because you forgot the meeting of this Day, We have forgotten you. Taste the punishment of eternal timelessness for what you did.’

  • 15.

Innama yu/minu bi-ayatinaallatheena itha thukkiroo bihakharroo sujjadan wasabbahoo bihamdi rabbihim wahumla yastakbiroon

The people who truly do have iman in Our Signs are those who fall to the ground prostrating when they are reminded of them, and glorify their Lord with praise, and are not arrogant.

  • 16.

Tatajafa junoobuhum AAani almadajiAAiyadAAoona rabbahum khawfan watamaAAan wamimmarazaqnahum yunfiqoon

Their sides eschew their beds as they call on their Lord in fear and ardent hope. And they give of what We have provided for them.

  • 17.

Fala taAAlamu nafsun maokhfiya lahum min qurrati aAAyunin jazaan bima kanooyaAAmaloon

No self knows the delight that is hidden away for it in recompense for what it used to do.

  • 18.

Afaman kana mu/minan kaman kanafasiqan la yastawoon

Is someone who has iman like someone who is a deviator? They are not the same!

  • 19.

Amma allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati falahum jannatualma/wa nuzulan bima kanoo yaAAmaloon

As for those who have iman and do right actions, they will have the Gardens of Safe Refuge as hospitality for what they used to do.

  • 20.

Waamma allatheena fasaqoofama/wahumu annaru kullama aradooan yakhrujoo minha oAAeedoo feeha waqeela lahum thooqooAAathaba annari allathee kuntum bihitukaththiboon

But as for those who are deviators, their refuge is the Fire. Every time that they want to get out, they are put straight back into it again and they are told, ‘Taste the punishment of the Fire, which you denied.’

  • 21.

Walanutheeqannahum mina alAAathabial-adna doona alAAathabi al-akbari laAAallahumyarjiAAoon

We will give them a taste of lesser punishment before the greater punishment, so that hopefully they will turn back.

  • 22.

Waman athlamu mimman thukkirabi-ayati rabbihi thumma aAArada AAanhainna mina almujrimeena muntaqimoon

Who could do greater wrong than someone who is reminded of the Signs of his Lord and then turns away from them? We will take revenge on the evildoers.

  • 23.

Walaqad atayna moosaalkitaba fala takun fee miryatin min liqa-ihiwajaAAalnahu hudan libanee isra-eel

We gave Musa the Book – be in no doubt about the meeting with him – and made it a guidance for the tribe of Israel.

  • 24.

WajaAAalna minhum a-immatan yahdoonabi-amrina lamma sabaroo wakanoo bi-ayatinayooqinoon

We appointed leaders from among them, guiding by Our command when they were steadfast and when they had certainty about Our Signs.

  • 25.

Inna rabbaka huwa yafsilu baynahumyawma alqiyamati feema kanoo feehiyakhtalifoon

On the Day of Rising your Lord will decide between them regarding everything about which they differed.

  • 26.

Awa lam yahdi lahum kam ahlakna minqablihim mina alqurooni yamshoona fee masakinihim inna feethalika laayatin afala yasmaAAoon

Are they not guided by the many generations We destroyed before them, among whose ruined homes they walk around? There are certainly Signs in that. So will they not listen?

  • 27.

Awa lam yaraw anna nasooqu almaaila al-ardi aljuruzi fanukhriju bihi zarAAanta-kulu minhu anAAamuhum waanfusuhum afala yubsiroon

Do they not see how We drive water to barren land and bring forth crops by it which their livestock and they themselves both eat? So will they not see?

  • 28.

Wayaqooloona mata hatha alfathuin kuntum sadiqeen

They say, ‘When will this victory come if you are telling the truth?’

  • 29.

Qul yawma alfathi la yanfaAAuallatheena kafaroo eemanuhum wala hum yuntharoon

Say: ‘On the Day of Victory the iman of those who were kafir will be of no use to them. They will be granted no reprieve.’

  • 30.

    FaaAArid AAanhum wantathirinnahum muntathiroon

So turn from them and wait. They too are waiting.
