2. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 234
وَالَّذ۪ينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ اَزْوَاجاً يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِاَنْفُسِهِنَّ اَرْبَعَةَ اَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْراًۚ فَاِذَا بَلَغْنَ اَجَلَهُنَّ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ ف۪يمَا فَعَلْنَ ف۪ٓي اَنْفُسِهِنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِۜ وَاللّٰهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَب۪يرٌ
Wallatheena yutawaffawnaminkum wayatharoona azwajan yatarabbasnabi-anfusihinna arbaAAata ashhurin waAAashran fa-ithabalaghna ajalahunna fala junaha AAalaykum feemafaAAalna fee anfusihinna bilmaAAroofi wallahubima taAAmaloona khabeer
Those of you who die leaving wives behind: they should wait by themselves for four months and ten nights. When their ‘idda comes to an end, you are not to blame for anything they do with themselves with correctness and courtesy. Allah is aware of what you do.
