2. Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 183

يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذ۪ينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَۙ

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanookutiba AAalaykumu assiyamu kamakutiba AAala allatheena min qablikum laAAallakumtattaqoon

You who have iman! fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you – so that hopefully you will have taqwa –
