59. Surah Al-Hashr The Exile

← 58. Al-Mujadila | 60. Al-Mumtahanah →

    Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

In the name of Allah, All-Merciful, Most Merciful

  • 1.

Sabbaha lillahi ma fee assamawatiwama fee al-ardi wahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeem

Everything in the heavens and everything in the earth glorifies Allah. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.

  • 2.

Huwa allathee akhraja allatheenakafaroo min ahli alkitabi min diyarihim li-awwalialhashri ma thanantum an yakhrujoo wathannooannahum maniAAatuhum husoonuhum mina Allahifaatahumu Allahu min haythu lam yahtasiboowaqathafa fee quloobihimu arruAAba yukhriboonabuyootahum bi-aydeehim waaydee almu/mineena faAAtabiroo yaolee al-absar

It is He who expelled those who were kafir among the People of the Book from their homes to the first gathering-place. * You did not think that they would leave and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allah. Then Allah came upon them from where they least expected it and cast terror into their hearts. Their houses were pulled down by their own hands and by the hands of the muminun. People of insight, take note!

  • 3.

Walawla an kataba AllahuAAalayhimu aljalaa laAAaththabahum fee addunyawalahum fee al-akhirati AAathabu annar

If Allah had not prescribed banishment for them, He would have punished them in the dunya. But in the akhira they will have the punishment of the Fire.

  • 4.

Thalika bi-annahum shaqqoo Allahawarasoolahu waman yushaqqi Allaha fa-inna Allahashadeedu alAAiqab

That is because they were entrenched in hostility towards Allah and His Messenger. If anyone is hostile towards Allah, Allah is Severe in Retribution.

  • 5.

Ma qataAAtum min leenatin awtaraktumooha qa-imatan AAala osoolihafabi-ithni Allahi waliyukhziya alfasiqeen

Whatever palm-trees you cut down, or left standing upright on their roots, it was done by Allah’s permission in order to disgrace the deviators.

  • 6.

Wama afaa Allahu AAalarasoolihi minhum fama awjaftum AAalayhi min khaylin walarikabin walakinna Allaha yusalliturusulahu AAala man yashao wallahuAAala kulli shay-in qadeer

Whatever booty from them Allah has given to His Messenger – and you spurred on neither horse nor camel in its acquisition, but Allah gives power to His Messengers over anyone He wills, Allah has power over all things –

  • 7.

Ma afaa Allahu AAalarasoolihi min ahli alqura falillahi walirrasooliwalithee alqurba walyatama walmasakeeniwabni assabeeli kay la yakoona doolatanbayna al-aghniya-i minkum wama atakumuarrasoolu fakhuthoohu wama nahakumAAanhu fantahoo wattaqoo Allaha inna Allahashadeedu alAAiqab

whatever booty Allah gives to His Messenger from city dwellers belongs to Allah and to the Messenger and to near relatives and orphans and the very poor and travellers, so that it does not become something which merely revolves between the rich among you. Whatever the Messenger gives you you should accept and whatever he forbids you you should forgo. Have taqwa of Allah – Allah is severe in retribution.

  • 8.

Lilfuqara-i almuhajireena allatheenaokhrijoo min diyarihim waamwalihim yabtaghoona fadlanmina Allahi waridwanan wayansuroonaAllaha warasoolahu ola-ika humu assadiqoon

It is for the poor of the Muhajirun who were driven from their homes and wealth desiring the favour and the pleasure of Allah and supporting Allah and His Messenger. Such people are the truly sincere.

  • 9.

Wallatheena tabawwaoo addarawal-eemana min qablihim yuhibboona man hajarailayhim wala yajidoona fee sudoorihim hajatanmimma ootoo wayu/thiroona AAala anfusihim walaw kanabihim khasasatun waman yooqa shuhha nafsihi faola-ikahumu almuflihoon

Those who were already settled in the abode, and in iman, before they came, love those who have made hijra to them and do not find in their hearts any need for what they have been given and prefer them to themselves even if they themselves are needy. It is the people who are safe-guarded from the avarice of their own selves who are successful.

  • 10.

Wallatheena jaoo minbaAAdihim yaqooloona rabbana ighfir lana wali-ikhwaninaallatheena sabaqoona bil-eemani walatajAAal fee quloobina ghillan lillatheena amanoorabbana innaka raoofun raheem

Those who have come after them say, ‘Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in iman and do not put any rancour in our hearts towards those who have iman. Our Lord, You are All-Gentle, Most Merciful.’

  • 11.

Alam tara ila allatheena nafaqooyaqooloona li-ikhwanihimu allatheena kafaroo minahli alkitabi la-in okhrijtum lanakhrujanna maAAakum walanuteeAAu feekum ahadan abadan wa-in qootiltum lanansurannakumwallahu yashhadu innahum lakathiboon

Did you not see the hypocrites saying to their brothers, those among the People of the Book who are kafir, ‘If you are driven out we will leave with you, we will never obey anyone to your detriment. And if you are fought against we will help you’? Allah bears witness that they are truly liars.

  • 12.

La-in okhrijoo la yakhrujoonamaAAahum wala-in qootiloo la yansuroonahum wala-innasaroohum layuwallunna al-adbara thumma layunsaroon

If they are driven out they will not leave with them. If they are fought against they will not help them. And if they did help them they would turn their backs, and then they would not be helped.

  • 13.

Laantum ashaddu rahbatan fee sudoorihimmina Allahi thalika bi-annahum qawmun layafqahoon

You are a greater cause of terror in their breasts than Allah! That is because they are people who do not understand.

  • 14.

La yuqatiloonakum jameeAAanilla fee quran muhassanatin aw min wara-ijudurin ba/suhum baynahum shadeedun tahsabuhum jameeAAanwaquloobuhum shatta thalika bi-annahum qawmun layaAAqiloon

They will not fight against you all together as a group except in fortified towns or behind high walls. Their hostility towards each other is intense. They are full of bravado in each other’s company. You consider them united but their hearts are scattered wide. That is because they are people who do not use their intellect.

  • 15.

Kamathali allatheena min qablihimqareeban thaqoo wabala amrihim walahum AAathabunaleem

They are the same as those a short time before them who tasted the evil consequences of what they did. They will have a painful punishment.

  • 16.

Kamathali ashshaytani ithqala lil-insani okfur falamma kafara qalainnee baree-on minka innee akhafu Allaha rabba alAAalameen

They are like Shaytan when he says to a human being, ‘Be kafir,’ and then when he becomes kafir, says, ‘I wash my hands of you. Truly I fear Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.’

  • 17.

Fakana AAaqibatahumaannahuma fee annari khalidayni feehawathalika jazao aththalimeen

The final fate of both of them is that they will be timelessly, for ever in the Fire. That is the repayment of the wrongdoers.

  • 18.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooittaqoo Allaha waltanthur nafsun maqaddamat lighadin wattaqoo Allaha inna Allahakhabeerun bima taAAmaloon

You who have iman! have taqwa of Allah and let each self look to what it has sent forward for Tomorrow. Have taqwa of Allah. Allah is aware of what you do.

  • 19.

Wala takoonoo kallatheenanasoo Allaha faansahum anfusahum ola-ikahumu alfasiqoon

Do not be like those who forgot Allah so He made them forget themselves. Such people are the deviators.

  • 20.

    La yastawee as-habu annariwaas-habu aljannati as-habu aljannatihumu alfa-izoon

The Companions of the Fire and the Companions of the Garden are not the same. It is the Companions of the Garden who are the victors.

  • 21.

Law anzalna hatha alqur-anaAAala jabalin laraaytahu khashiAAan mutasaddiAAanmin khashyati Allahi watilka al-amthalu nadribuhalinnasi laAAallahum yatafakkaroon

If We had sent down this Qur’an onto a mountain, you would have seen it humbled, crushed to pieces out of fear of Allah. We make such examples for people so that hopefully they will reflect.

  • 22.

Huwa Allahu allathee lailaha illa huwa AAalimu alghaybi washshahadatihuwa arrahmanu arraheem

He is Allah – there is no god but Him. He is the Knower of the Unseen and the Visible. He is the All-Merciful, the Most Merciful.

  • 23.

Huwa Allahu allathee lailaha illa huwa almaliku alquddoosu assalamualmu/minu almuhayminu alAAazeezu aljabbaru almutakabbirusubhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoon

He is Allah – there is no god but Him. He is the King, the Most Pure, the Perfect Peace, the Trustworthy, the Safeguarder, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supremely Great. Glory be to Allah above all they associate with Him.

  • 24.

Huwa Allahu alkhaliqu albari-oalmusawwiru lahu al-asmao alhusnayusabbihu lahu ma fee assamawatiwal-ardi wahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeem

He is Allah – the Creator, the Maker, the Giver of Form. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Everything in the heavens and earth glorifies Him. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
